The Kamloops Blazers suffered their first serious injury of the season Friday when defenceman Mark Schneider went down with a dislocated wrist.
Schneider was injured while skating with veterans and pros in an afternoon session at the Interior Savings Centre.
There weren’t any bones broken, so he won’t need surgery. But he was expected to spend the night in Royal Inland Hospital because doctors were going to have to anesthetise him to repair the wrist.
Schneider, who turns 17 on Nov. 10, spent last season with the midget AAA Brandon Wheat Kings. The son of former Wheat Kings captain Ken Schneider, Mark is one of the favourites to earn a spot on the blue line.
“He’ll be out four to six weeks,” trainer Colin Robinson said. “But it could have been a lot worse.”

It turns out that RW Tyler Ellerby, a 16-year-old from Sylvan Lake, Alta., is related to veteran D Keaton Ellerby. They are second cousins.
Tyler’s father, Tim, and Keaton’s father, Cal, are first cousins.
