Brace 1, Dean 0

Heard from an old friend the other day, a guy who has friends throughout the sporting world. Murray Brace, a Winnipegger, once was involved with a venture known as the Prairie League of Professional Baseball. (I don't know of another general manager who has put on the mascot's suit -- in this case, a prairie chicken -- when the need arose.) If ever I were to write a book about unforgettable characters I have met, he would be in an early chapter. . . . Anyway, the Bracemeister now lives in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Yes, he was directly in the path of hurricane Dean, at least for a bit. And here's what it was like . . .

Well, Hurricane Dean came and went!! The hurricane actually dipped down and
went a different course. The effects were definitely felt, hard rain that
lasted 12 hours, strong winds, but no major damage. Today is clean up for
the city of Playa Del Carmen, taking down boards, and putting up traffic
lights and power line poles.

It turned out good, as good as we could ask for. With safety precautions
put in place by the government, tourism will take a hit for about a month.
But better safe than sorry. So with Dean out of the way we now await the
next one, there will be many more scares between now and October!!!
