Notes . . .

Two Vancouver Giants defencemen — Mike Berube and Juraj Valach — have landed NHL free-agent tryouts. The Province’s Steve Ewen reports that Berube will go to camp with the Edmonton Oilers, while Valach will join the San Jose Sharks. Both were acquired in offseason deals, Berube from the Red Deer Rebels and Valach from the Tri-City Americans. . . . Roger Lemire, the Giants’ vice-president of sales and marketing, has told Ewen that the team will go over the 5,000-mark in season-ticket sales for the first time in franchise history.

The Medicine Hat Tigers have lost their goaltending coach. Eli Wilson, who worked with the Tigers for four seasons, has signed with the Ottawa Senators as their goaltending coach. He replaces Ron Low, who was promoted to assistant coach.

There was a time when D Ben Wright of the Lethbridge Hurricanes was expected to miss a chunk of this season thanks to shoulder surgery. Except that Wright, 19, didn’t have surgery. Instead, Trevor Kenney of the Lethbridge Hurricanes reports, Wright rehabbed in the gym and now is healthy and ready for training camp. . . . Finnish G Juha Metsola, whom the Hurricanes selected in the 2007 import draft, is in Lethbridge preparing for camp.
