Some notes . . .

The Kamloops Blazers will have three players off their roster in NHL camps next month. D Victor Bartley (free agent, Detroit Red Wings), D Keaton Ellerby (Florida Panthers) and RW Juuso Puustinen (Calgary Flames) are expected back with the Blazers, however. Ellerby (first round, 2007) and Puustinen (fifth round, 2006) are NHL draft picks. . . . Former Kamloops captain Reid Jorgensen will attend camp with the Boston Bruins on a free-agent tryout basis. Jorgensen went to camp with Detroit each of the last two seasons. Should he not earn a contract with Boston, Jorgensen is likely to attend the U of Calgary.

The Brandon Wheat Kings have received a commitment from RW Brandon Regier, the 17th overall pick in the 2007 bantam draft. Regier, from Abbotsford, had 121 points and 164 penalty minutes in 55 games last season. . . . By the way, if you live in the Brandon area, or are going to be there on Aug. 14 (that’s Tuesday), get over to the Great Western Roadhouse at the Canad Inns. That‚s the site of the Rob Stouffer Bud, Spud and Steak Barbecue. All proceeds go to benefit Stouffer, the Wheat Kings trainer who is undergoing cancer treatment in Winnipeg. For info, call the Wheat Kings‚ office at 204-726-3535. . . . The Wheat Kings have signed John Fayed as their new athletic trainer. Fayed, 22, replaces Stouffer. Habscheid, who was fired as the Boston Bruins’ associate coach after last season, would replace Craig Simpson, who quit Thursday to join Hockey Night in Canada’s staff. . . . C Brett Robertson, who played out his WHL eligibility last season, will go to camp on a free-agent tryout with the Vancouver Canucks. After four seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers, Robertson was dealt to the Prince George Cougars and then to the Seattle Thunderbirds last season. In 71 games, he had 52 points. . . . Jon Klemm is in the hunt for the Kootenay Ice’s assistant coaching position. Klemm, an NHL defenceman who is from Cranbrook, played for the Dallas Stars last season and is an unrestricted free agent and hopes to play at least one more season. Ice GM Jeff Chynoweth has offered the job to Klemm but, with training camp two weeks away, wants/needs an answer. . . . The Ottawa Sun has reported that the Ottawa Senators have promoted goaltending coach Ron Low to assistant coach. He will work under head coach John Paddock. Among those considered for the position was former Kootenay head coach Ryan McGill, who now is in the Calgary Flames’ organization. Vancouver Giants head coach Don Hay also is believed to have spoken with Paddock. . . . Brandon LW Andrew Clark, 19, will go to camp with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues on a free-agent tryout agreement.
