Rockets get Messier

The Edmonton Oil Kings have dealt D Lyon Messier, 20, to the Kelowna Rockets for future considerations. Messier, who was in the Oil Kings’ camp as a free agent, is Mark’s son. He played with the NAHL’s Texas Tornado last season, putting up 18 points and 57 penalty inutes in 62 games. . . . The Oil Kings now are down to five 20-year-olds — G Alex Archibald, D Michael Hengen, F Karey Pieper, D Bretton Stamler and D Matt Swaby. As an expansion team, they are allowed five 20s, while other teams may dress three. . . . The Rockets’ 20-year-olds right now are Messier, G Kris Westblom and LW James McEwan. . . .

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have dealt D Todd Panchyson, 19, to the Portland Winter Hawks for a conditional 2008 sixth-round bantam draft pick. The Hurricanes acquired him from the Saskatoon Blades last season for a 2007 seventh-round pick. In 23 games with Lethbridge, he had four points and 18 penalty minutes. . . . The Winter Hawks get older on the back end; the Hurricanes free up ice time for younger defencemen.

The Tri-City Americans have dealt F Cody Wutzke, 17, to the Saskatoon Blades for F Ryan Marshall, 16. Marshall, who is from Ste. Rose, Man., was a ninth-round pick by the Blades in the 2006 draft. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Marshall had 40 points in 38 games with the midget AAA Parkland Rangers last season. Wutzke, a 6-foot-2, 210-pounder who is from Saskatoon, played for the midget AAA Saskatoon Blazers, putting up 50 points and 148 penalty minutes in 33 games. He was the 87th pick in the 2005 bantam draft. . . . Tri-City GM Bob Tory adds speed to his lineup, at the expense of size, while the Blades bring in a hometown boy.
