THE SCORE
Kamloops 6, Everett 4
WHAT HAPPENED
The Blazers fell behind 4-2 against a team that isn’t in the habit of coughing up third-period leads. But there wasn’t any quit in the home team on this night and it was full marks for the victory.
THE SPARKPLUG
Kamloops LW Ivan (Sparky) Rohac had two goals, including the one that broke a 4-4 tie. He now has 18 points in 24 games, with 10 of those points coming in his last seven games.
THE STANDINGS
The Blazers (12-10-1-1), having won six of their last seven games, are seventh in the Western Conference, three points behind the Silvertips (14-11-0-1) and Chilliwack Bruins (13-9-3-0).
THE CROWD
The announced attendance was 4,203, the smallest crowd in The ATM this season. The previous smallest was 4,290 on Nov. 6 when the Red Deer Rebels won 2-1 in a shootout.
THE OPENING FACEOFF
Everett RW Lukas Vartovnik and Rohac exchanged greetings as they prepared for the first puck to be dropped. Both players are from Slovakia.
THE FORCE
Everett LW Kyle Beach, at 17, is arguably the premier player in the league today. He is third in goals (19), second in points (38) and second in penalty minutes (95). But he isn’t on either of the WHL teams that will play the Russians in two ADT Challenge Games next week. “It’s not fair,” said one Everett official.
THE MISCONDUCT
Beach was hit with a misconduct at 19:58 of the first period after C Zach Hamill scored to give Everett a 2-1 lead. The penalty was for a mouthguard violation, not for yapping.
THE GOALTENDER
Blazers G Justin Leclerc was named the ADT CHL goaltender of the week yesterday. He was 2-0 with a 0.96 GAA and a .961 save percentage in his two starts last week. . . . The last Kamloops goaltender so honoured was Devan Dubnyk, for the week ending Jan. 9, 2005. He had gone 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .959 save percentage.
THE BLAZERS’ ROSE
After an absence that lasted far too long, Brandon Rose was back in the house and singing both national anthems as only she can do.
THE DAILY NEWS
THREE STARS
1. LW Ivan Rohac, Kamloops. Makes things happen.
2. C Zach Hamill, Everett. It was his puck at times.
