Wednesday's highlights . . .

The Kootenay Ice may have set a record Wednesday by announcing the departure of not one but two MacDonalds. . . . The Ice has dealt D Paul MacDonald, 19, to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 2009 seventh-round bantam draft pick. In his third season with the Ice, he had two assists and 23 penalty minutes in 18 games. . . . At the same time, the Ice announced that F Jason MacDonald, who had one assist in five games, has left the team. MacDonald, 19, started the season with the Kelowna Rockets. . . .

According to Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province, Craig Bonner, the Giants’ assistant GM/assistant coach, is interested in talking to the Kamloops Blazers about their vacant GM position. The Blazers fired GM/head coach Dean Clark on Wednesday. Bonner, a former Blazers defenceman, is tight with Darryl Sydor, another former Blazers defenceman who is one of the team’s five owners. . . . “I know there’s going to be rumours, but I haven’t talked to anybody there,” Bonner told Ewen. “I’d love to be a general manager in this league, but I’m also very loyal to the Vancouver Giants.” . . . Bonner signed a new three-year contract in August. . . .

WEDNESDAY’s HIGHLIGHTS
In Vancouver, the Giants got three goals from F Lance Bouma as they dumped the Prince George Cougars 7-4. . . . It was the sophomore’s first WHL three-goal night. Two of his goals came in a 10-second span of the third period. . . . The Giants (14-4-1-2) are 7-3-0-1 in their last 11 outings. . . . The Cougars (9-11-0-0) have lost two in a row after getting to the .500 mark after a 10-6-0-0 start. . . . Despite the final score, the game was tied 3-3 after two periods. . . . Former NHLer Joe Nieuwendy, special assistant to the GM with the Florida Panthers, was in the building to watch F Michal Repik of the Giants, who is a Florida draft pick. . . . Repik finished with a goal and an assist. . . .

In Calgary, the Prince Albert Raiders dumped the Hitmen 5-2. . . . Bruno Campese, the Raiders’ freshman head coach, was an assistant coach with the Hitmen at one time. He lost his job after 2003-04. . . . The Hitmen (12-8-0-1) have lost five of their last six games and eight of 11. . . . The Raiders (7-11-2-0) have won four of six. . . . Prior to this game, the Raiders had played 28 games in Calgary without winning in regulation time. . . . Prince Albert G Steven Stanford, who is from Calgary, stopped 35 shots for his second victory. . . .

In Kelowna, red-hot Cody Almond had two goals as the Rockets got past the Red Deer Rebels 3-2. . . . Almond has four goals and seven assists in his last five games for the Rockets (9-7-1-1) who have won four straight. . . . The Rebels (5-14-4-0) lost one night after ending a 10-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout victoryin Kamloops. . . .

In Moose Jaw, the Warriors lost their second straight game, this one 5-3 to the Edmonton Oil Kings. . . . The Warriors (9-5-3-1) had gained points in 10 straight games before their last two outings. . . . The Oil Kings (9-8-1-2) has lost two straight. . . . Edmonton scored five times in the second period. . . .

In Lethbridge, the Hurricanes dumped the Everett Silvertips 4-1 for their seventh victory in eight games. . . . The Hurricanes (11-7-1-1) have picked up 15 points in their last eight games. . . . The Silvertips (11-8-0-0) had a three-game winning steak end. . . . Lethbridge D Travis Bobbee (shoulder) may miss a couple of weeks.
