Monday's musings . . .

If you’re looking for a good read on the last week’s kerfuffle involving the B and B boys – Kyle Beach of the Everett Silvertips and Chris Bruton of the Spokane Chiefs – check out this column written by John Sleeper of the Everett Herald. . . . This is what’s known in the business as a GOOD read. . . .

INJURY REPORT: LW Cody Smuk of the Chilliwack Bruins is gone for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury suffered Saturday in a 3-2 shootout victory over the visiting Kamloops Blazers. The Bruins are in their second season and Smuk had been one of two players to have played in all of the team’s regular-season and playoff games. His injury leaves LW Mark Santorelli as the franchise iron man. . . . If all goes according to plan, RW Michal Repik will be back in the Vancouver Giants’ lineup on Jan. 30 when the Lethbridge Hurricanes visit Pacific Coliseum. Repik, who has been out since suffering a concussion on Dec. 1, is scheduled to practise today, albeit in a yellow no-contact jersey. The plan is to have him join contact drills early next week. The Giants are 13-3-0-2 since he went down. . . .

MONDAY’S MUSINGS: LW Craig Cunningham of the Vancouver Giants drew a one-game sentence for a hit from behind during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current. . . . No, the hockey fans of Medicine Hat didn’t flatten the tires on a vehicle belonging to referee Cory McLean following the Tigers’ 5-4 circus loss to the visiting Tri-City Americans on Friday. However, McLean did leave the arena to find a flat tire on his vehicle – that would be ONE flat tire – and he and the linesmen changed it. Gotta wonder why the Americans didn’t get off their bus and help out. Might have been worth a call or two down the road, eh? . . . Is there a more impressive statistic this season than the .901 save percentage belonging to Portland Winter Hawks G Kurtis Mucha?

MONDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS:

In Portland, LW Dustin Donaghy scored his first WHL goal to help the Spokane Chiefs to a 4-1 victory over the Winter Hawks. . . . This was Monday’s lone WHL game. . . . The Chiefs (33-10-1-3) moved into a tie with the Vancouver Giants for first place overall. . . . The Chiefs and Giants are one point ahead of the Tri-City Americans and two up on the Eastern Conference-leading Calgary Hitmen. . . . The Chiefs scored three power-play goals on as many opportunities. . . . The Winter Hawks (9-37-1-1), who got the game’s first goal from LW Radim Valchar in the first period, were 0-for-2. . . . Spokane C Chris Bruton, in his first game after serving a two-game suspension, had two assists and was the game’s first star. . . . The Chiefs outshot the Winter Hawks, 43-15.
