Wednesday's highlights . . .

WEDNESDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS
In Red Deer, G Joe Caligiuri stopped 15 shots, five in each period, as the Brandon Wheat Kings dumped the Rebels, 2-0. . . . The Wheat Kings (25-12-0-1) moved into first place in the East Division, by percentage points over the idle Regina Pats, so right now are the second seed in the Eastern Conference. . . . The Rebels (10-26-4-1) have lost three straight and five of six. . . . The shutout was the first of Caligiuri’s career. . . . RW Matt Lowry scored the game’s first goal, on the PP at 10:09 of the second period, and F Sanfred King got his first WHL goal at 9:06 of the second for insurance. . . . Red Deer G James Reimer, back after a five-game absence with a wonky ankle, stopped 37 shots. . . . Without RW J.D. Watt and RW Scott Doucet, veterans traded to the Regina Pats on Tuesday, and C Brandon Sutter and C Landon Ferraro at tournaments, the Red Deer roster featured a total of 40 goals this season. . . .

In Kennewick, Wash., LW Colton Yellow Horn ran his point streak to 21 games as the Tri-City Americans edged the Moose Jaw Warriors, 3-2. . . . The Warriors (20-11-4-3) are 2-2 on a U.S. swing. . . . The Americans (28-8-1-0) moved into a tie for first place overall with the Spokane Chiefs, Vancouver Giants and Calgary Hitmen. All have 57 points. . . . Tri-City outshot Moose Jaw 9-2 in the first period and grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals by Yellow Horn and C Shaun Vey. . . . Former Tri-City C Joel Broda pulled the Warriors to within one with a shorthanded goal midway in the second period. . . . Yellow Horn bought some insurance with a PP goal early in the third. . . . Yellow Horn has 26 goals on the season and has put up 40 points over his 21-game run. . . . Tri-City was 2-for- 4 on the PP; the Warriors were 0-for-5. . . . Tri-City C Jason Reese, acquired earlier from the Warriors, had two assists, one of them the 100th of his career. . . .

In Swift Current, G Mike Maniago stopped 21 shots as the Lethbridge Hurricanes dumped the Broncos, 4-1. . . . The Broncos (19-17-0-5) had won their first two meetings with Lethbridge. . . . The Hurricanes (25-14-1-1) had lost four of their last five games. . . . Maniago lost his shutout bid with 14 seconds left in the third period. . . . F Mitch Fadden had three assists for Lethbridge. . . . Dean Chynoweth, the Broncos’ GM and head coach, gave the home fans some excitement when he was ejected with 3:48 left in the third period after tossing a water bottle onto the ice. His Broncos have lost five of their last six games. . . .

In Edmonton, C Tyler Ennis’s shootout goal gave the Tigers a 3-2 victory the Oil Kings. . . . Medicine Hat (23-13-3-1) is 4-0 against the expansion Oil Kings, having outscored them 12-4. . . . The Oil Kings (14-19-2-5) are eight points out of a playoff spot. . . . Edmonton G Alex Archibald stopped 40 shots. . . . Ennis was the only one of six shooters to score in the circus. . . . Edmonton C Brenden Dowd’s goal with 1:50 left in the second period tied the game 2-2. . . . Edmonton D Brandon Lockerby may need surgery to repair a broken jaw. . . .

In Kelowna, C Colin Long, name the WHL’s player of the month for December earlier in the day, had three assists to lead the Rockets to a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Giants. . . . That moved Long, who has 61 points, into first place in the WHL scoring race, one point ahead of Chilliwack Bruins C Mark Santorelli. . . . The Rockets (22-13-2-4) have won two in a row. . . . The Giants (26-8-1-4) hadn’t lost in regulation time in 10 games. . . . F Brady Leavold had two goals for Kelowna. . . . The Rockets are fourth in the Western Conference. . . . The Giants are tied with the Spokane Chiefs, Tri-City Americans and Calgary Hitmen for first place overall. Each has 57 points. . . .

In Prince Albert, the Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead and then gave up seven straight goals in falling 7-3 to the Calgary Hitmen. . . . The Raiders (13-22-3-2) now are 2-2 versus Calgary this season. . . . The Hitmen (27-12-1-2) have won three straight. . . . Calgary got goals from seven different players.
