The final verdict is in from Friday Night Fights, last week’s game in Regina between the Pats and Saskatoon Blades. . . . Both head coaches, Curtis Hunt of the Pats and Lorne Molleken of the Blades, drew two-game suspensions after their teams engaged in their fifth line brawls of the season. . . . Both teams were fined $1,500 for line brawling. . . . Both teams also were fined $250 because the goaltenders fought. . . . The Pats also were fined $500 for what the league is calling “unsustained request for supplemental discipline” from that game. . . . Hunt and Molleken are the second and third coaches to be suspended this season. Dean Chynoweth, the GM/head coach of the Swift Current Broncos, sat out two games earlier, one for each of the water bottles he threw onto the ice late in a game. . . .

YOUTH WILL BE SERVED: F Connor Antoine, who is a 1993-born forward, has committed verbally to attend the U of Vermont for the 2011-12 season. . . . Seriously. . . . Antoine, who turns 15 in June, is from Lewiston, Me., and plays for the junior B Portland, Maine, Pirates who play in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League. In 26 games, he has 21 points, including nine goals. He had a goal and an assist in the league’s all-star game. . . . Last season, playing for a bantam team, he had 76 points in 47 games. . . . He is believed to be the first 1993-born player to make an NCAA commitment. . . .
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST: The QM QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres fired head coach Martin Bernard on Saturday. The Tigres (22-27-2-2) lost 7-3 to the P.E.I. Rocket on Friday and Bernard was axed the next day. That was the Tigres’ third straight loss. He had been head coach since May 2006. . . . He was replaced Monday by Yanick Jean, who was fired as head coach of the Rocket in October. The Rocket was 7-7-1-0 at the time.

ON THE LIST: A source familiar with the situation has indicated that Dean Clark is under consideration by Hockey Canada as head coach of its team at the U-18 world championship tournament in April. Clark was fired as general manager and head coach of the Kamloops Blazers on Nov. 7, two weeks after Tom Gaglardi, Shane Doan, Jarome Iginla, Mark Recchi and Darryl Sydor took over ownership of the franchise. . . . The U-18 tournament runs April 13-23 in Kazan, Russia. It also will feature teams from Belarus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. . . . Canada is in Group A with Denmark, Germany, Russia and Slovakia. Canada opens against Germany on April 13. . . .

MONDAY’S NOTES: It’s official. F Cole Penner, the fourth overall pick in the 2006 bantam draft, is back with the Prince Albert Raiders. Penner left the Raiders earlier this season and joined the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits where he suffered wrist and rib injuries. . . . C Jason Bast of the Moose Jaw Warriors, who suffered a leg injury in a 5-1 victory over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, could be back in action by the weekend after X-rays were negative. He may miss a Wednesday visit to the Crushed Can by the Saskatoon Blades. He has 62 points in 55 games. . . . RW Ken Petkau, who left the Chilliwack Bruins earlier this season, now is with the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers. You may recall that he left the Bruins, attempted to catch on with the Central league’s Oklahoma City Blazers and ended up on the Vancouver Giants’ player list. . . . C Derek Lee, 17, has committed to attend Wisconsin and is likely to start there in the fall of 2009. Andy Baggot at Badger Blog was the first with that report. Lee, 5-foot-9 and 162 pounds, has 69 points in 43 games with the BCHL’s Salmon Arm SilverBacks. He is from North Vancouver His WHL rights belong to the Vancouver Giants after he was selected 110th by the Spokane Chiefs in the 2005 bantam draft. . . . Meanwhile, Baggot also reports that D Justin Schultz of the BCHL’s Westside Warriors visited Wisconsin last week. Schultz, who apparently has about 20 schools drooling over him, is on the Kootenay Ice’s player list. . . . Prince George Cougars G Ian Curtis will sit for at least a week to rest an injured shoulder. With him sidelined, the Cougars are hoping to bring in Joel Danyluk, 17, from the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers to back up Real Cyr.
