THURSDAY IN THE WHL:
In Kelowna, C Colin Long had a goal and three assists to lead the Rockets to an 8-2 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings. . . . The Rockets (32-18-2-6) has lost four straight, one of those in the cirucs. . . . Kelowna is fourth in the Western Conference, five points ahead of the Seattle Thunderbirds. . . . Brandon (34-20-2-2) is tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference. . . . Long now has a four-point lead atop the WHL points parade. He has 87 points, including 61 assists. LW Mark Santorelli of the Chilliwack Bruins is second, with 83 points, 61 of them assists. LW Colton Yellow Horn of the Tri-City Americans, who leads the WHL in goals (43), is third, with 78 points. . . . Kelowna went 2-0 against Brandon this season, having won 5-4 in the Wheat City on Dec. 12. . . . This game was hyped because it featured the first WHL meeting between the Schenn brothers — Luke, 18, is a defenceeman with the Rockets and will be a top five pick in the 2008 NHL draft; Brayden is a 16-year-old centre with Brandon and should win the WHL’s rookie-of-the-year award. . . . RW Brady Leavold had a five-point night, including three helpers, for the Rockets, while LW Lucas Bloodoff added two goals.
