Friday's package. . . .

The Portland Oregonian is reporting that Ken Hodge, the Winter Hawks’ longtime general manager, is close to finalizing a deal with the team that would alter his job description. Hodge told the Oregonian’s Boag Herzog that the deal, which would have him doing more scouting, could be done Monday. . . . According to Herzog: “Hodge, 61, a former coach and owner of the junior hockey franchise, said he would prefer to remain general manager but that he loves the team, wants to help it improve and wishes to remain in Portland, his home for the past 34 years.” . . . Meanwhile, president and minority owner Jack Donovan told Herzog one option being looked at is to have Rich Kromm, who is in his first season as the club’s head coach, double up as general manager. . . . The Winter Hawks (9-52-1-1) have lost 18 straight games as they meet the Silvertips in Everett on Saturday. They haven't won since beating the Cougars 3-2 in a shootout in Prince George on Jan. 16.

Without the guys in that room there's no way I would be able to get this many. Especially on a night like tonight. I felt there were a couple times I was down and out and the guys were right there to bail me out. It's quite an achievement. I'm pretty proud, but at the same time it's pretty irrelevant compared to what we're trying to get done here. I'm going to keep taking it one game at a time and when the season's over, then we can enjoy what we've accomplished." . . . Seattle now is 6-2 against Everett this season. . . .
