Kulka, 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, will get in the ring against super-heavyweight Wayne (X-Man) Xilon of Sudbury. . . . The Regina Leader-Post’s Greg Harder is reporting that Pats’ defenceman Logan Pyett, 19, “is close to signing a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings. According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the deal could be finalized as early as this week. Detroit needs to sign Pyett by June 1 or he’ll be eligible to re-enter the NHL draft (June 20-21 in Ottawa).” Pyett was the 212th selection in the 2006 draft and has since become an elite defenceman. . . . G Tommy Tartaglione, 20, who has played in the WHL with Vancouver, Regina and Prince George, was the 130th selection in the USHL’s draft on Wednesday. Among the 166 players taken in the USHL draft was F Shane McColgan of the under-18 Los Angeles Kings, who went 86th overall to the expansion Fargo Force. The Kelowna Rockets hold McColgan’s WHL rights, having taken him 13th overall in the 2008 bantam draft.
