The Kamloops Blazers, as expected, have named Matt Recchi their director of player personnel. He is the younger brother of Blazers co-owner Mark Recchi and has scouted for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins for the past three seasons.
Ken Fox has been named head scout. He was the Swift Current Broncos' assistant scouting director and knows Kamloops GM Craig Bonner because the two worked together in Vancouver.
Former assistant coach/assistant GM Shane Zulyniak is the new director of sales and corporate sponsorship. . . . Dave Chyzowski, who had been director of marketing, now is director of sales and marketing. . . . Greg (Spike) Wallace, formerly the alumni and community liaison, is community and sponsorship co-ordinator. . . . Tracy McDonald, the longtime office assistant, ws named office administrator and retail store manager. . . . Angie Mercuri, who was the office manager, has been named executive director of business operations. . . . Karen Hibbert remains as box office administrator. . . . This means the Blazers' business team, headed up by Mercuri, now is in place.
On the hockey side, the coaching staff has yet to be fleshed out, but don't look for a head coach to be named before the NHL draft.
The Blazers also have released two veterans -- D/RW Sasha Golin and D Spencer Fraipoint, both of whom are preparing for their 20-year-old seasons. Golin was acquired two seasons ago from the Portland Winter Hawks for C Matt Schmermund; Fraipont was part of the January deal in which the Blazers got him and D Nick Ross from the Regina Pats for D Ryan Bender and D Victor Bartley.
