Thursday . . .

Cory Wolfe, a sports writer with the Saskatoon StarPhoenix, does a regular feature in which he interviews a sports personality. This week, the subject is Spokane Chiefs’ captain Chris Bruton, who was holding the Memorial Cup when it fell apart.
Wolfe asked Bruton: The video of your trophy misfortune has been viewed more than 100,000 times on YouTube, but what is your favourite Youtube video?
Bruton replied: There’s one of me knocking out (Everett Silvertips forward) Kyle Beach this (season).

Garth MacBeth, our man with his eyes on the European scene, reports that the saga of Wayne Fleming and Dynamo Minsk of the Continental Hockey League may be over. Fleming visited Belarus last week and faxed a contract to Dynamo on Tuesday. Apparently, Fleming asked for some conditions, one of which was the right to sign a North American assistant coach. It sounded like it was almost a done deal when, whoops, it all fell apart. In the end, Dynamo Minsk has decided to halt talks with Fleming and, instead, is chatting with former NHLer Paul Gardner, a former coach of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

Joey Kenward, the radio voice of the Vancouver Giants for five seasons, could be on the move. The Vancouver Province is reporting that Kenward will be moving up to call 45 Vancouver Canucks’ games on TEAM 1040 AM, replacing John Shorthouse. Shorthouse will be leaving the radio booth to call 45 Canucks’ games for Sportsnet Pacific alongside analyst John Garrett. If Kenward makes the move, he would be working with veteran analyst Tom Larscheid. The Province wasn’t able to get confirmation from the radio station, with program director Rob Gray telling writer Jim Jamieson that there is a shortlist and that Kenward had applied. . . . All of these moves became necessary after Jim Hughson, the voice of the Canucks on Sportsnet Pacific, signed a six-year deal with Hockey Night in Canada.
