Tuesday . . . late

The Calgary Hitmen have released G David Aime, 19, leaving them with three netminders — veterans Dan Spence and Martin Jones and rookie Michael Snider. Spence, 20, and Jones, 18, were with the Hitmen last season. Snider, 17, is from DeWinton, Alta. . . . Calgary still has four players at NHL camps — G Martin Jones (Los Angeles Kings), F Carson McMillan (Minnesota Wild), D Paul Postma (Atlanta Thrashers) and D Michael Stone (Phoenix Coyotes). As well, D Alex Plante, who has asked the Hitmen for a trade, is with the Edmonton Oilers.

F Joel Broda, a 30-goal man last season, has been returned to the Moose Jaw Warriors by the Washington Capitals. Broda, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL draft by the Capitals, is expected to play for the Warriors on Wednesday when they meet the Raiders in Prince Albert. . . . The Warriors have released D Ty Ariss, 18, who played 23 games for them last season after being acquired in a swap with the Portland Winter Hawks. . . . Ariss' release left the Warriors with nine defencemen, including Travis Hamonic, who is with the New York Islanders.

D Tomas Voracek, 18, has left the Prince Albert Raiders and returned to his hometown of Ostrava, Czech Republic, to be with his mother, who is battling cancer. Voracek is in his second season with the Raiders. He had 12 points and was plus-8 in 65 games last season. This season, he has one assist and is plus-3 in two games. . . . The Swift Current Broncos have reassigned F Blayze Bruyer, 17, to the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders. Bruyer, from Edmonton, was placed on the Broncos’ list in November 2007. . . . The Buffalo Sabres have returned F Tyler Ennis to the Medicine Hat Tigers. . . . F Jordie Deagle, 19, who was released this week by the Prince George Cougars, is likely to play for the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits while he waits to see if another WHL team has any interest in him. His younger brothers, Brad and Kevin, play for the Bandits. An uncle, former WHL and pro defenceman Brian Curran, is the Bandits’ head coach. . . . The Pittsburgh Penguins have returned F Brett Leffler to the Regina Pats and F Eric Mestery to the Tri-City Americans. . . . Regina has four other players in NHL camps — RW Jordan Eberle (Edmonton Oilers), D Matt Delahey (New Jersey Devils), and G Linden Rowat and D Colten Teubert (Los Angeles Kings). . . . Tri-City still has two players in NHL camps — G Chet Pickard (Nashville Predators) and D Tyler Schmidt (Minnesota Wild). . . .

Former WHL scoring champ Erik Christensen was looking forward to an opportunity to be the Atlanta Thrashers’ No. 1 centre. But those plans may have been derailed when he suffered an injury to his right shoulder in an intrasquad game on Tuesday. Mike Knobler of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Christensen, who won the WHL’s 2002-03 scoring title while with the Kamloops Blazers, was to undergo an MRI on Tuesday with results expected on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Christensen, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, was expected to open the season on a line with sniper Ilya Kovalchuk and right-winger Jason Williams. According to Knobler: “Christensen hit the ice hard, and the game came to an immediate halt as he skated toward the bench. He stood there for a moment, then skated off the ice, his right arm tucked tight to his body.
