THE SCORE
Kamloops 4, Prince George 1
WHAT HAPPENED
The Blazers weathered Hurricane Cougar early in the first and second
periods, got key early saves from G Justin Leclerc, and dominated the other
50 minutes.
THE PENALTY SHOT
Kamloops LW Kenton Dulle scored on a penalty shot at 10:37 of the first
period. It was his second penalty shot in this building — he was denied by
Regina G Linden Rowat in the third period of the Pats’ 3-2 victory on Feb.
27.
THE GENERAL MANAGER
Craig Bonner, the general manager of the Blazers, wasn’t in attendance last
night. He was in Vernon watching a BCHL game between the Vipers and Westside
Warriors.
THE GOLD WATCH
Prior to the game, the Blazers saluted Perry Coutts, who retired as the
team’s mascot, Digger, after last season. Coutts, who spent 17 years with
the Blazers, was presented with a watch and a standing ovation.
THE DEADLINE
A roster deadline passed Friday at midnight when WHL teams had to be down to
25 players, not including those on the injured list or more than three
20-year-olds. The WHL's 20-year-old deadline arrives Thursday, with teams
each having to declare a maximum of three.
THE OFF-ICE GANG
At least six of the Blazers’ off-ice officials will be in Vancouver on Oct.
18, meeting with VANOC officials and beginning security clearance and
training necessary to work the hockey competition at the 2010 Olympic Winter
Games.
THE QUOTE
"(Goaltender Kevin Armstrong has) been everything that we’ve wanted and
more. He’s stopped all the pucks that he needs to stop and stopped the ones
that other teams thought he wouldn’t stop." — Cougars head coach Drew
Schoneck, to Patrick King of sportsnet.ca.
THE DAILY NEWS THREE STARS
1. LW Kenton Dulle, Kamloops. Two goals, lots of chances.
2. G Justin Leclerc, Kamloops. Shone early in first two periods.
3. D Kurt Torbohm, Kamloops. A rock, especially on penalty kill.
