Life's a Beach in Everett

The Everett Silvertips are getting LW Kyle Beach, 18, back from the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. Beach, who is going into his third WHL season, is expected to practise with the Silvertips on Wednesday. He was the 11th overall selection in the NHL’s 2008 draft, but has yet to sign a contract with the Blackhawks. Last season, he had 60 points and 222 penalty minutes in 60 regular-season games. He will be one of Everett’s alternate captains, along with D Graham Potuer and D Taylor Ellington. C Zack Dailey is the team captain. . . . Naturally, Beach’s first game action will come against the Seattle Thunderbirds, who visit Everett on Friday.

C Casey Pierro-Zabotel of the Vancouver Giants is the Boston Pizza WHL player of the week. Pierro-Zabotel, 20, had seven points and was plus-7 in helping the Giants win twice over the last week. They beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 10-2 and the Portland Winter Hawks, 7-1. . . . The chopped liver award goes to F Colton Sceviour of Lethbridge who had eight points as the Hurricanes dumped the Kelowna Rockets 7-3 and the Swift Current Broncos, 5-2. He was pointless in Lethbridge’s other game last week, a 4-2 loss to the Hitmen in Calgary. . . G Dustin Tokarski, 19, of the Spokane Chiefs is the nominee for the ADT CHL goaltender-of-the-week award. He was 2-0-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA and a .955 save percentage last week.
