The OHL’s Saginaw Spirit has fired another general manager. This time it was former NHL goaltender Don Edwards getting the pink slip. Mark Constantine of The Saginaw News reports that the Spirit have done this four times in their seven-year history. According to Constantine, “Saginaw president and managing partner Craig Goslin cited several reasons for the move, including a lack of communication. . . . Edwards and head coach Todd Watson did not see eye-to-eye on nearly anything, creating a rift that saw the two men barely speaking to each other at the end.” The Spirit has named Watson director of hockey operations and head coach.

The Calgary Hitmen have dropped F Edgars Ulescenko, 18, a Latvian who was a healthy scratch for six of the team’s first eight games. That leaves the Hitmen with one import — Slovenian LW Bostjan Golicic, 19. . . . The Hitmen have also assigned F Cody Beach, 16, to the major midget team in his hometown of Kelowna. He is the younger brother of Everett Silvertips LW Kyle Beach, who returned this week from the camp of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks.
