This year's Whistler Film Festival will honour Oscar-nominated producer Bill Vince with an evening of tributes from friends and colleagues, and a screening of one of his last movies.
The Vancouver-based Vince, who died of cancer at age 44 in June, earned a best-picture Oscar nomination for 2005's Capote. He was working on several films at the time of his death, including director Charles Martin Smith's Stone of Destiny, which will screen after the Whistler Conference Centre tribute Dec. 5. Vince produced more than 35 movies during his career.
Moderated by Smith, the evening will include clips from classic Vince moments and on-stage reminiscences from friends including American screenwriter Roger Avary and Canadian-born actor Barry Pepper.
The two-hour tribute starts at 7:30 p.m., and the Stone of Destiny screening at the Village 8 Cinemas is at 9:45 p.m.
Tickets for the tribute, at $100 each, will be available as of Nov. 3 at www.whistlerfilmfestival.com, with half the evening's proceeds going to B.C. Film's new William Vince Scholarship Fund for aspiring filmmakers.
This year's festival runs from Dec. 4-7.
