Blazers box

THE SCORE
Kamloops 4, Prince George 2

WHAT HAPPENED
The Blazers seized the momentum with two late-first period power plays, even
though they didn’t score on either one, and won this won with a four-goal
second period.

THE STANDINGS
The Blazers (11-12-0-3) are sixth in the Western Conference, two points
behind the Everett Silvertips (12-8-3-0) and three ahead of the Chilliwack
Bruins (9-12-2-2). The Cougars (10-13-0-1) are tied for eighth.

THE GOALTENDER
The Blazers thought they had scored at 15:45 of the first period when C C.J.
Stretch tried to one-time a Shayne Wiebe centring pass inside the left post.
But G Kevin Armstrong somehow got his right pad over in time to keep the
puck from crossing the line.

THE RETURN
Travel connections went smoothly enough that RW Brady Calla was able to get
back with the Blazers in time to play. Reassigned Monday night from the
AHL’s Rochester Americans, Calla opened on a line with Uriah Machuga and
Alex Rodgers. . . . Calla picked up two assists in his first game back.

THE PHONE CALL
Calla was en route to Buffalo to watch Monday night’s NFL game between the
Bills and Cleveland Browns when he got the call informing him that he would
be returning to the Blazers.

THE GOALTENDER
Former Blazers G Devan Dubnyk, now with the Springfield Falcons, was named
the AHL’s player of the week after going 2-1-0 with a 1.30 GAA and a .968
save percentage. He also recorded his first AHL shutout. The head coach in
Springfield is former Kelowna Rockets head coach Jeff Truitt.

THE GENERAL MANAGER
Regina Pats GM Brent Parker was in the building. His Pats are here on Nov.
28. So . . . was he advance-scouting two B.C. teams, or was he looking for
possible trades. Or was it both?

THE DAILY NEWS THREE STARS
1. RW Brady Calla, Kamloops. Provided emotional lift.

2. RW Tyler Shattock, Kamloops. Goal, assist and chances.

3. D Nick Ross, Kamloops. Under control.

NEXT UP
The Blazers go home-and-home with the Vancouver Giants. They play in
Vancouver on Friday night and back here Saturday, 7 p.m.
