He is expected to rejoin the Giants when D Jon Blum heads off for the U.S. national junior team next month. . . . Doyle Potenteau of the Kelowna Daily Courier has discovered that Guard, 25, has a groin tear and plans on returning to Canada to rehab the injury. Kelowna goaltending coach Kim Dillabaugh spoke with Guard and told Potenteau that Guard said “he wasn’t enjoying his time there, and that it wasn’t the calibre of hockey he initially thought it would be. I guess he basically wasn’t having fun, and once he got injured, that helped him make his decision (to leave Val Pusteria).” He was 1-7-0 with a 3.30 GAA and a .894 save percentage in Italy.
