Wednesday . . .

The CHL has decided that G Tyson Sexsmith of the Vancouver Giants is major junior hockey’s record-holder for career shutouts. He posted his 22nd career shutout on Friday, beating the Cougars 5-0 in Prince George. Paul Krotz, the CHL’s director of media/information services, has informed the Giants:
“The CHL recognizes that Tyson Sexsmith is the CHL record holder based on the fact that the OHL and QMJHL do not track that record. When Tyson set the WHL record last week, I went into the OHL and QMJHL record books to see if there were any prominent goaltenders from either league (who) had a shot at 22 shutouts or more. It is safe to say that unless a player comes out of the woodwork with verifiable information from the (1950s or 1960s) that no player in the modern era of major junior hockey has the number of shutouts that Tyson Sexsmith has.”

The injury bug has taken a bite out of the Prince George Cougars. . . . D Colin Scherger (broken hand) could miss a month after being injured in a 5-2 loss to the visiting Vancouver Giants on Saturday. . . . D Jeff Regier (concussion), who was acquired from the Everett Silvertips, has missed two games. . . . F Marek Viedensky (concussion) has missed one game. . . . Viedensky had been playing on the Cougars‚ top line, alongside Dana Tyrell and Brett Connolly. With the Slovakian freshman injured, Parker Stanfield moved up to that line for Tuesday‚s 6-1 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

JUST NOTES: D Ben Wright (knee) isn’t with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on a two-game road swing. They lost 5-2 to the Chiefs in Spokane on Wednesday night and meet the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook on Friday. . . . Saskatoon G Braden Holtby stopped a penalty shot in overtime and then was 3-for-6 in a shootout as the Blades beat the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds, 2-1. Seattle F Lindsay Nielsen was awarded a penalty shot with 1:05 left in the five-minute OT period but couldn’t beat Holtby. The Blades outscored the Thunderbirds 4-3 in the circus. . . . The Chilliwack Bruins officially deleted F Oscar Moller, 19, from their roster on Nov. 6. Moller, a high-scoring Swede, stuck with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. . . . The Lethbridge Hurricanes met the Chiefs in Spokane last night for the first time since last spring’s final. The defending Memorial Cup-champion Chiefs won this one 5-2 with F Levko Koper scoring twice. Spokane G Dustin Tokarski stopped 35 shots and the Chiefs went 3-for-6 on the PP. . . . Vancouver C Evander Kane had an assist in the Giants’ 3-1 victory over the Rockets in Kelowna. He has at least one point in each of the Giants’ 19 games this season.
