Jon Keen, the radio voice of the Swift Current Broncos, reports that D Jesse Dudas, 20, played Friday night for the River Cree First Nations, who play in the Alberta Chinook Senior AAA League. Dudas, 20, has been injured for most of this season and chose not to report to the Broncos after the Christmas break. He now is awaiting the WHL’s Jan. 10 trade deadline.

The host Saskatoon Blades failed to score in the shootout as they lost 5-4 to the Prince Albert Raiders. . . . The Blades led 2-0 after one period and the teams were tied 2-2 after two. Saskatoon scored the first two goals of the second period but gave up goals to F James Dobrowolski (10:05) and F Matt Robertson (13:25, PP) as the Raiders forced OT. . . . Raiders F Dustin Cameron, their fourth shooter and a former Blade, was the lone successful marksman of the circus. . . . Prince Albert G Steve Stanford stopped 39 shots, including 18 in the first period, and was perfect in the shootout. . . . Saskatoon F Derek Hulak, the captain, had a goal and an assist. He also took 11 stitches to a lip after taking a puck in the face in the third period. He was back for the OT. . . . The Raiders have won five straight and now are tied for the Eastern Conference’s last playoff spot. . . . Saskatoon G Braden Holtby played in his 151st regular-season game to set a franchise record. Trevor Robins held the previous record. . . . From Cory Wolfe of the Saskatoon StarPhoenix: When Hulak opened the scoring at the 2:03 mark, he pointed his right mitt skyward to salute former University of Saskatchewan basketball player Brennan Jarrett. Hulak attended Jarrett’s funeral earlier in the day. The 19-year-old Saskatonian died Dec. 21 after collapsing during a game of pick-up basketball. “We went to the same elementary school (St. Luke) and the same high school (Holy Cross),” said Hulak. “He was a big part of my childhood . . . (and) I thought I’d give him a little salute.”

G Travis Yonkman stopped 23 shots to help the Swift Current Broncos to a 6-0 victory over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes. . . . The shutout was Yonkman’s second of the season and seventh of his career. . . . The Broncos have put up four shutouts this season; the Hurricanes have been blanked three times. . . . This also was the 56th shutout in the WHL this season. Going into Saturday’s games, goaltenders were on pace for 99 shutouts this season. That would be the fifth-highest total in WHL history. . . . F Keegan Dansereau had three goals for the Broncos, giving him 25 this season. He also had an assist. . . . F Cody Eakin added two Swift Current goals, including a shorthanded marker at 6:11 of the first period.

The Kamloops Blazers, whipped 8-4 by the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night, went into Vancouver 24 hours later and beat the Giants, 2-1. . . . It was only the third time this season – and the first time on home ice – that the Giants have been beaten in regulation time. They are 20-1-0-2 at home. . . . Kamloops G Jon Groenheyde stopped 33 shots. He has beaten the Western Conference’s top two teams in his last two starts. He was in goal Dec. 29 when the Blazers beat the host Tri-City Americans, 5-2. . . . RW Tyler Shattock broke a 1-1 tie with a PP goal 43 seconds into the third period.

Captain Taylor Procyshen had a goal and an assist to help the Tri-City Americans to a 5-2 victory over the Cougars in Prince George. . . . In Kelowna, F Joel Broda scored twice as the Moose Jaw Warriors skated to a 5-2 victory over the Rockets. . . . Broda now has a WHL-leading 35 goals, including nine in his last four games. . . . The Warriors got off to a terrific start when F Joey Kornelsen, 15, scored his first WHL goal at 4:15 of the first period. He was the Warriors’ first pick, 33rd overall, in the 2008 bantam draft. . . . D Travis Hamonic, who had three goals in an 8-4 victory in Kamloops on Friday, had a goal and two helpers. . . . Moose Jaw also got two assists from each of F Jason Bast, F Thomas Frazee and F Ian Duval. . . . Moose Jaw G Deven Dubyk stopped 37 shots. . . . The Warriors, with the poorest record in the 12-team Eastern Conference, are 4-2 on a seven-game road trip that ends Tuesday in Prince George. . . . F Brenden Silvester, a 17-year-old sophomore from Port Coquitlam, B.C., scored the first goal in the history of the ShoWare Center and his Seattle Thunderbirds went on to a 4-3 victory over the Everett Silvertips. . . . There were 6,125 fans on hand as the Thunderbirds christened their new home with a victory. . . . The Kamloops Blazers visit the Thunderbirds there on Sunday. . . . Seattle jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Everett before the Silvertips got three goals, two on the PP, late in the third period. . . . Everett’s last two goals, both by F Shane Harper, came with its goaltender out for the extra attacker. . . . Seattle G Jacob DeSerres turned aside 24 shots. . . . The Silvertips went with G Thomas Heemskerk, who was acquired earlier in the week from the Kootenay Ice. He made 25 saves. . . . Everett F Kyle Beach, who picked up 19 minutes in penalties, didn’t return after a second-period bout with Seattle’s Brad Haber. Beach, who was tagged with the instigator penalty, came out of the scrap with a broken nose. He isn’t expected to miss any games. . . . The Thunderbirds will play 24 of their last 33 games in the ShoWare Center. . . . Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald was at the game in Kent and his story included this: “There was one black mark on the opening night as two full water bottles were thrown onto the ice during play after Seattle had an apparent goal disallowed. Despite the flying debris, play was allowed to continue.” . . . Everett head coach John Becanic told Patterson: "I thought it was the hardest we've played since the break. We had complete control of the game until the officials took over. I'm not disappointed with our effort and our energy tonight. Obviously discipline is an issue, and I don't know how much of it was us being undisciplined and how much of it was officiating." . . . Seattle was 2-for-10 on the PP; Everett was 2-for-6. . . .
