Questions, questions, we’ve got questions . . .
1. When is the last time a player took a penalty during a shootout? That’s
what happened in Kamloops on Wednesday as Everett centre Kellan Tochkin, the last shooter in the circus, was hit with a misconduct.
2. Why would the WHL hold meetings in Las Vegas earlier this week? Other than to avoid possibly chilly temperatures in Calgary, that is?
3. Why not hold those meetings in a city that is home to a WHL franchise,
putting some money back into that community? That only would generate good will and perhaps garner some media attention at the same time.
4. Were any decisions reached at the meetings in Las Vegas?
5. How many WHL people attended the UFC card in Las Vegas on Saturday night? And how many of those WHL people waved Canadian flags on behalf of our own Georges St-Pierre?
6. Which WHL team continues to talk with a former WHL head coach, who, if there is a contract at the end of the road, would take over the hockey side of its operation?
7. How many people has that former coach contacted to see if they would be interested in joining his staff should the talks reach fruition?
8. When will the good folks in Moose Jaw put a shovel in the ground and get started building whatever it is that some of them want to build?
9. Will the WHL ever do anything to get away from loser points? One head
coach said the other night that with a one-goal lead on the road, halfway through the third period “I’m shutting it down.” That’s how important that
loser point has become.
10. Is this silly, or what? The Kamloops Blazers and Everett Silvertips concluded their regular-season series Wednesday night. The Blazers won the series, 3-1-0-0. No, the Silvertips won the series, 1-0-1-2. . . . The teams met four times. A victory is worth two points. Right? Well, the Blazers ended up with six points and the Silvertips got five. So four games actually were worth 11 points.
