JUST NOTES: There is an interesting matchup in Regina on Wednesday night as the Pats play host to the Swift Current Broncos. The Broncos are 6-3-1-0 in their 10 games. The Pats have lost four straight and 19 of 25. . . . Meanwhile, the Vancouver Giants will meet the Bruins in Chilliwack. Including regular-season and playoff games, the Giants are 29-2-1-1 against Chilliwack since the Bruins came into the WHL. . . . The Memorial Cup-champion Spokane Chiefs have been named team of the year by the Inland Northwest Sportswriters and Broadcasters (SWABs). They also will be honoured for having the coach of the year (Bill Peters) and the amateur male athlete of the year (goaltender Dustin Tokarski) on their roster. Peters now is head coach of the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. The 31st annual Spokane Regional Sports Commission Youth Awards Luncheon will be held Wednesday at which time the Chiefs, Peters and Tokarski will be feted. As well, Chiefs GM Tim Speltz, who is in his 19th season, will be presented with a certificate of achiement. And C Tyler Johnson is in the running as the junior male athlete of the year. . . . Everett Silvertips LW Daniel Bartek (fractured foot) is back skating and might play on the weekend.

In Moose Jaw, G Andrew Hayes stopped 27 shots as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Warriors, 7-0. . . . F Mark Stone had two goals and a pair of assists for Brandon. Brayden Schenn had a goal and three assists for Brandon. . . . Moose Jaw D Travis Hamonic returned from a knee injury only to be ejected ato 10:15 of the first period. . . . Brandon is 11-2 in its last 13 road games. The Wheaties are 21-2-2 overall in their last 25 games.

In Saskatoon, G Braden Holtby stopped 24 shots as the Saskatoon Blades got past the Medicine Hat Tigers, 3-0. . . . Holtby has five shutouts this season and six for his career. That equals the franchise record held by Ed Humphreys (1970-73).. . . . The Blades got two goals from C Milan Kytnar, whose girlfriend is visiting from Slovakia. . . . Kytnar also missed a first-period penalty shot. . . . Saskatoon D Stefan Elliott had a goal and two assists. . . . Medicine Hat F Tristan King left on a stretcher after a first-period hit by Saskatoon D Sam Klassen. After the game, Willie Desjardins, the Tigers’ GM and head coach, said he thought King was OK. . . . Medicine Hat D Matt McCue was ejected from the game late in the third period and reports have him appearing to get into something of an altercation with a fan as he left the playing surface.

In Calgary, the Hitmen unleashed a 59-shot attack and beat the Kamloops Blazers, 8-1. . . . Kamloops G Jon Groenheyde, making his first start since Jan. 23, turned aside 23 shots in the first period to keep the game scoreless. . . . The Hitmen fired 20 more shots at him in the second period as they scored five times. . . . Calgary D Paul Postma set up four goals and was plus-6. Postma, the WHL’s highest-scoring defenceman, ran his point streak to 14 games, during which time he has 29 points, including 19 assists. . . . The Hitmen (48-7-3-1) are the first WHL team to 100 points. . . . Calgary has scored at least four goals in 41 games this season. . . . Calgary G Martin Jones stopped 16 shots. . . . The Hitmen beat Kamloops 6-2 in Calgary on Oct. 4 and have outshot the Blazers 99-36 in two games. . . . Kamloops D Michal Siska was back in the lineup after a seven-game absence with an ankle injury. . . .
