Monday's stuff . . .

Brandon McMillan, a forward by trade who now plays defence for Kelowna, scored the game’s lone goal Monday as the Rockets beat the Chiefs 1-0 in Spokane. . . . Kelowna G Mark Guggenberger stopped 22 shots for his first shutout with the Rockets. . . . The Rockets (47-21-1-3) clinched third in the Western Conference and will meet the Kamloops Blazers (33-33-2-4) in the first round. The Rockets were 9-0-0-0 against the Blazers in the regular season. . . . Kelowna sat out F Lucas Bloodoff (upper body), F Mikael Backlund (lower body) and F Kyle St. Denis (concussion, which is upper, upper body). However, Kelowna head coach Ryan Huska said after the game that Bloodoff and Backlund, both of whom were injured in a 6-4 victory in Kamloops on Friday, will play in Game 1. . . . Monday’s game was to have been played Sunday, but was postponed when a number of Chiefs players came down with food poisoning. The Chiefs will travel to Kennewick, Wash., on Tuesday and meet the Tri-City Americans in the last game of the regular season for both teams. . . . The Chiefs will finish fourth and will meet the Seattle Thunderibirds of Kent in the first round. . . . The Chiefs scratched D Jared Cowen (knee), D Mike Reddington (ill), F Ryan Letts (suspension), D Cory Baldwin (hand) and D Trevor Glass (shoulder).

Don’t forget that the Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince Albert Raiders play for playoff marbles on Tuesday night. The two tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference after 72 games, so will meet in a sudden-death game in Prince Albert. No loser points in this one. The winner meets the Calgary Hitmen, who finished first overall in the WHL, in the first round. That series opens Thursday in Calgary.

The Regina Pats are left to wonder what happened to their season. But one thing is for sure — head coach Dale Derkatch, with two years left on his contract, wants to return. In fact, he says he wishes a new season was starting right now. . . . Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post has that story right here.

Greg Harder of The Leader-Post also talked with Regina GM Brent Parker about whether there might be sweeping changes. That story is right here.

DEPT. OF CH-CHING: The Kamloops Blazers and Kelowna were fined $250 apiece after their starting goaltenders fought in the neutral zone on Saturday night. . . . The Prince George Cougars got dinged for $500 after getting involved in their third line brawl of the season on Saturday night in Vancouver.

JUST NOTES: LW Drayson Bowman of the Spokane Chiefs is the Boston Pizza WHL player of the week. He had eight points, including three goals, as the Chiefs went 2-0-0-0 last week. . . . Mark Friesen of the Chilliwack Bruins is the WHL’s nominee as the ADT CHL goaltender of the week. He was 2-0-0-0 with a 1.92 GAA and a .939 save percentage last week. . . . D Colten Teubert of the Regina Pats heard from the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and will be joining the ECHL’s Ontario Reign, which plays out of Ontario, Calif. Teubert was a first-round selection by the Kings in the NHL’s 2008 draft and has signed with Los Angeles. . . . RW Jordan Eberle of the Pats is expected to join the Springfield Falcons, the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. They used a first-round pick on Eberle in the NHL’s 2008 draft. Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post is reporting that the Oilers “are believed to be close” to signing Eberle to a three-year NHL deal. . . . Regina D Victor Bartley leaves Tuedsay morning to join the AHL’s Providence Bruins. He signed a tryout deal with the Bruins on the weekend. . . . D Keith Aulie was back practising with the Brandon Wheat Kings on Monday after missing five games with a broken hand. D Mark Schneider, who missed nine games with a separated shoulder, also was on the ice. The Wheat Kings open the playoffs against the visiting Kootenay Ice on Friday and Saturday. . . . All eyes in Kootenay were on F Dustin Sylverster, who suffered a broken ankle on Dec. 27. But he isn’t expected to play again this season unless the Ice gets well into the playoffs. “There’s no hope at all for (Sylvester) to get back,” Ice head coach Mark Holick told the Brandon Sun’s Rob Henderson. “We’d have to probably be in the Memorial Cup for him to have a shot.”
