In Regina, the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Pats 2-1. . . . Regina is five points out of the Eastern Conference’s last playoff spot with just four games remaining. . . . Brandon F Aaron Lewadniuk broke a 1-1 tie at 9:30 of the second period with his 14th goal of the season. He also set up F Nathan’s Green 21st goal at 8:57 of the first. . . . Regina got on the board first when F Matt Robertson got his 25th at 1:55 of the first. But the Pats weren’t able to get any more pucks behind G Andrew Hayes, who stopped 23 shots in winning his 29th game.

In Saskatoon, the Lethbridge Hurricanes scored the game’s last two goals and beat the Blades, 4-3. . . . Attendance was 7,428 as it seems Blades’ fever is starting to grip the Bridge City. . . . The Blades led 3-2 after one period and took that lead into the third. . . . D Mitch Versteeg, with his eighth on the PP at 8:19, and F Dwight King, with his 24th, at 13:55, gave the visitors the victory. . . . Lethbridge was 2-for-3 on the PP; Saskatoon was 2-for-5. . . . Just 42 seconds before King’s goal, Lethbridge F Cam Braes was stymied by G Braden Holtby on a penalty shot. . . . Braes drew an assist on King’s winner. . . . Saskatoon captain Dan Hulak scored his 30th goal on a first-period PP.

In Medicine Hat, the Kootenay Ice scored the game’s last three goals and beat the Tigers, 4-1. . . . F Tylan Stephens, who was plus-3, broke a 1-1 tie at 18:01 of the second period and F Steele Boomer, fresh off a lengthy absence with a concussion, scored at 19:47. Boomer was playing his second game since Jan. 2. . . . D Brayden McNabb added a PP goal at 1:12 of the third period, giving the Ice three goals in 3:11 and control of the game. . . . The victory lifted the sixth-place Ice to within three points of the Tigers. . . . The teams play Sunday in Cranbrook. . . . The Tigers have three games left; the Ice, which has beaten the Tigers the last six times the teams have met, has four.

In Red Deer, D Colin Archer’s empty-net goal at 19:23 of the third period proved the winner as the Rebels downed the Swift Current Broncos, 4-3. . . . Archer gave the Rebels a 4-2 edge, before F Michael Stickland scored for the Broncos at 19:42 on the PP. . . . Archer’s goal actually was an ‘own goal’ off the stick of Swift Current F Cody Eakin. His pass back to the point in the Red Deer zone hopped over a defenceman’s stick and ended up in the open net. . . . Red Deer had broken a 2-2 tie with F Connor Redmond’s fourth goal at 13:49 of the third period. . . . The Rebels were eliminated from playoff contention on Friday. The Broncos are fourth in the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of the Medicine Hat Tigers. . . . Stickland had two goals, giving him 24, while F Justin Dowling got his 20th for the Broncos.

In Kent, Wash., G Calvin Pickard stopped 24 shots to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds of Kent to a 6-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans. . . . The shutout was the third of Pickard’s freshman season. . . . Seattle, which had lost three straight, has put up four shutouts this season; Tri-City has been blanked twice. . . . One night after the same teams staged a line brawl in the same building, there were 10 minor penalties handed out. . . . C Jim O’Brien had two assists, both on the PP, for Seattle, which closed to within a point of fifth-place Kamloops in the Western Conference. . . . Pickard is the younger brother of Tri-City G Chet Pickard, who has been out for a week with a concussion. . . . The Americans also were without head coach Don Nachbaur, who served a one-game suspension because Friday’s incident was his club’s fourth-such melee of the season.

In Chilliwack, the Bruins vacated the WHL basement with a 5-3 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks. . . . The Winter Hawks led this one 3-0 midway through the second period, only to have the Bruins score five straight goals. . . . D Brandon Manning had a goal and two helpers for the Bruins who, along with the idle Moose Jaw Warriors, have 39 points, one more than Portland. . . . F Ryan Howse got his 29th and 30th goals, both via the PP, to tie the game and F Alexander Wiklund got the winner at 13:04. . . . F Kevin Sundher added insurance when he scored on a penalty shot at 15:22.

In Kelowna, LW Jamie Benn’s goal at 1:09 of OT gave the Rockets a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants. . . . The victory kept the Rockets in third spot in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the Spokane Chiefs, who were winning 5-2 over the Cougars in Prince George. . . . Benn, who has 42 goals, also had an assist, while C Colin Long also had a goal and an assist. . . . F J.T. Barnett scored his first goal of the season for the Giants, who led 2-0 late in the second period. . . . Benn scored at 19:52 of the second period and D Tyler Myers, with his 9th, tied the score at 3:23 of the third. . . . Kelowna G Mark Guggenberger finished with 29 saves, eight more than Vancouver’s Tyson Sexsmith. . . . Since Feb. 1, the Rockets are 15-2-0-1, including 12-0-0-0 against teams that are headed for the playoffs. . . . Kelowna has won each of the last three meetings with the Giants. . . . Vancouver has lost two in a row for only the second time this season and the first time since early October. In fairness, it must be pointed out that Vancouver has yet to lose back-to-back games in regulation time. . . . Vancouver F Todd Kennedy left the game with an injury to his left leg and was on crutches afterwards.

In Prince George, the Spokane Chiefs broke a 2-2 tie with three third-period goals, two of them into an empty net, as they beat the Cougars, 5-2. . . . The Chiefs stayed within one point of the third-place Kelowna Rockets. Each has four games remaining. . . . C Mitch Wahl broke a 2-2 tie at 11:48 of the third period and LW Drayson Bowman and F Levko Koper added empty-net goals. . . . The Cougars are eighth and will meet the Vancouver Giants in the first round. . . . C Brett Connolly had a goal and an assist for the Cougars.
