Some Wednesday stuff . . .

THE MacBETH REPORT: F Ben Thomson (Medicine Hat) signed a one-year extension with Ravensburg (Germany 2.Bundesliga). He has nine goals and 31 assists in 27 games for Ravensburg this season.

From the Prince George Citizen:
Cougars defenceman Matt Cumming and forward Parker Stanfield were passengers in a vehicle involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 16 and Domano Boulevard.
Cumming, 17, sustained a neck injury that kept him out of the lineup in Tuesday’s game, while Stanfield, 18, was not hurt.
“Matt was a little sore and didn’t play but he should be ready by the weekend,” said Cougars head coach Wade Klippenstein. “They’re OK.”

JUST NOTES: The Brandon Wheat Kings have added D Ryley Miller, 16, to their roster. Miller, the 31st overall pick in the 2007 bantam draft, had been with the AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints. Miller played the first half of the season with the Wheat Kings before being assigned to the Saints. He had three assists and 25 minutes in penalties with the Wheat Kings. . . . The Prince George Cougars have added F Bobby Asham, an eighth-round pick in the 2007 bantam draft, after the midget AAA Central Plains Capitals had their season in Manitoba come to an end. . . . LW Evander Kane of the Vancouver Giants scored his 43rd and 44th goals of the season Wednesday in a 6-2 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans. The 44th goal broke the franchise record that was set by C Adam Courchaine in 2002-03. . . . G Chet Pickard, who had made 23 straight starts for the Americans, didn’t make the trip. He is out with a concussion. The Americans started Drew Owsley and brought Brett Martyniuk for the third period. . . . The Giants were without D Jon Blum (shoulder), F Lance Bouma (hand) and F Mike Piluso (hand). Blum, the team captain and one of the WHL’s premier defencemen, hopes to play Friday against the visiting Calgary Hitmen.
LW Jamie Benn scored twice, giving him 41, as the host Kelowna Rockets dumped the Spokane Chiefs, 4-1. . . . Benn and Spokane LW Drayson Bowman duked it out midway through the second period. Bowman has 42 goals, mean the bout featured players who have accounted for 83 goals this season. . . . Benn has 74 points in 50 games. . . . Kelowna C Colin Long had a goal and three assists as he now skates between Benn and RW Mikael Backlund. . . . The Chiefs were without D Jared Cowen (knee), D Corey Baldwin (hand), D Trevor Glass (neck/shoulder) and D Stevan Ulmer (concussion). As well, RW Ryan Letts is serving a 10-game WHL suspension. . . . Kelowna is 3-0-0-0 against the Chiefs this season. . . . It’s always great to meet another hockey scout, so I was pleased to be introduced to Brian Bates, who scouts for the Columbus Blue Jackets out of the Minneapolis area. He also is a regular reader here. Hope to see you in the rink here again, Brian. And I’m thrilled that you enjoy this blog! . . . And a tip of the cap to the Seattle Thunderbirds of Kent, Wash., who announced that their 11th annual Hockey Challenge, which was held Feb. 28 at the ShoWare Center, raised $95,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska.
