The most interesting thing to come out of today is that the future of head coach Dave Hunchak would seem to be rather precarious. In other words, if he owes you any money you might want to ask him for it.
Basically, here’s what went on in Moose Jaw today . . .
Chad Lang, who was informed Friday that his services as general manager of the Warriors were no longer needed, chatted with the media early in the morning.
Lang went out with his head high, although it sounds like there is some confusion in his mind. It sounds as though he doesn’t understand how it is that if he did such a good job – and folks are telling him what a good job he did, especially in helping the organization get on sound financial footing – why is he unemployed?
But if anyone showed up at Lang’s home expecting him to barbecue the Warriors’ board of directors, well, it doesn't appear to have happened.
A short time later, the board introduced Jeff Truitt as the Warriors’ director of hockey operations. Truitt, 44, has ample experience as a coach at this level but has never been a general manager or, in this case, director of hockey operations.
One of Truitt’s first decisions will involve Hunchak, who just completed his second season as the club’s head coach.
“There’s been nothing formulated or anything like that,” Truitt told Taylor Lambert of The Times-Herald. “We’re going to sit down over the next week and talk about things like that. There’s no decisions on those types of situations yet.”
Hunchak and Truitt were assistant coaches on one of Canada’s under-18 teams in 2006.
“Jeff’s a man I have a tremendous amount of respect for; we’ve become
close over the last couple years since working together,” Hunchak said. “He and I are going to have to sit down and discuss what exactly (the direction) is going to be. If (our) two philosophies gel together, it will be a good relationship.”
