So the one night when I don’t listen to Dan Russell’s SportsTalk out of Vancouver and he features a conversation with former Seattle Thunderbirds/Tri-City Americans head coach Don Nachbaur. . . . One of the things Russell asked him was to name an all-star team of players he coached with the Thunderbirds and Americans. . . . Nachbaur put Carey Price in goal, with Deron Quint and Cory Sarich on defence, and Patrick Marleau, Oleg Saprykin and Mark Parrish up front. . . . Gotta think Nachbaur wouldn’t mind going into battle with his AHL Binghamton Senators with those six on his roster. . . .

D Ben Wright (Lethbridge Hurricanes) and forwards Taylor Procyshen (Tri-City Americans) and Jeff Lee (Edmonton Oil Kings) all played out their eligibility last season. . . .

The U of Saskatchewan Huskies have eight WHL grads in their 2009-10 recruiting class — F Andrew Bailey (Kootenay Ice), F Kyle Bortis (Swift Current, Broncos, Calgary Hitmen), F Brennan Bosch (Medicine Hat Tigers), F Brenden Dowd (Kamloops Blazers, Edmonton Oil Kings), D Cody Hobbs (Chilliwack Bruins, Prince George Cougars), G David Reekie (Kamloops, Regina, Everett Silvertips) and D Brett Ward (Saskatoon Blades, Moose Jaw Warriors, Chilliwack). . . . F Kyle Ross, who played in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels and Regina Pats, has transferred from the U of Regina to take law and will play for the Huskies. . . ,

The Brandon Sun is reporting that F Devon LeBlanc, who completed his WHL eligibility last season with the Seattle Thunderbirds, has signed with the Central league’s Rapid City Rush. His brother Derek, 23, played for the Rush last season and has signed another one-year deal. According to the Sun, the two brothers, who are from Brandon, have never played on the same team. Devon also has an AHL tryout line up with the Worcester Sharks, while Derek will get a look from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. . . .

It certainly sounds as though Theo Fleury, one of my favourite people from all those I have met while covering hockey, is going to attempt an NHL comeback. If he can get clearance from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, this is going to be fun to watch. The National Post has an update right here.
