Wednesday . . .

THE MacBETH REPORT: F Jeff Friesen (Regina, 1991-95) signed a try-out contract with Eisbären Berlin (Germany DEL). He had one goal and four assists in five games for Lake Erie (AHL) two seasons ago; he didn’t play last season. . . . D Filip Novak (Regina, 1999-2002) signed a contract (no terms announced) with HC MVD Balashikha (Russia KHL). He had four goals and 13 assists in 50 games with Dinamo Riga (Latvia, KHL) last season. . . . F Marcel Hossa (Portland, 1998-2001) signed a one-year contract extension with Dinamo Riga (Latvia, KHL). He had 22 goals and 23 assists in 52 games for Dinamo last season.
---
Tyler Hunnex, over at Let’s Go Birds, spoke with F David Richard and discovered that Richard, 20, has chosen to retire, rather than return for another season with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He played 290 regular-season and playoff games with the Thunderbirds. . . . Richard’s decision appears to leave Seattle with three 20-year-olds – F Lindsay Nielsen, F Prab Rai and D Jeremy Schappert.
---
G Torrie Jung, who played so well for the Edmonton Oil Kings last season, will go to camp with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers. Jung, 20, likely will be back with the Oil Kings. . . . The Oilers also are taking Kamloops Blazers F Dalibor Bortnak, 18, to their camp.
---
F Greg Pankewicz, one of the game’s good guys, has ended his playing career. Pankewicz, who played for the Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats (1989-91), spent 18 years in the professional game and split 21 NHL games between the Ottawa Senators and Calgary Flames. He retired from the Central league’s Colorado Eagles but will stay with them as an assistant coach. And that’s only fitting as he has been with the Eagles since their birth in 2003 and was part of two league championships (2005 and 2007).
---
The Kamloops Blazers are in the market for a goaltending consultant following the resignation of former WHL/NHL G Steve Passmore. He had been working with the Blazers since Jan. 2, 2008. . . . Earlier in the summer, Passmore also resigned as a co-coach of the junior B Kamloops Storm, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
---
The Hershey Bears, the AHL’s reigning champions, have signed D Dylan Yeo (Prince George, Calgary, 2003-06). He split last season between the AHL’s Manitoba Moose and the ECHL’s Victoria Salmon Kings. He had 43 points in 52 games with Victoria.
---
Former WHL G Rejean Beauchemin (Prince Albert, 2002-05) has re-signed with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads. He also has a deal to go to camp with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
