Sunday . . .

SUNDAY’S GAME:
In Vancouver, G Brendan Jensen won his WHL debut, leading the Vancouver Giants to a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. . . . Jensen, a 16-year-old from El Granada, Calif., was the 130th pick in the 2008 bantam draft. He made 22 saves. . . . Vancouver got a goal and an assist from D Neil Manning as it roared back from a 2-0 deficit. . . . F J.T. Barnett, the son of former Phoenix Coyotes GM Mike Barnett, scored his third goal of the season; he had one goal in 38 games last season. . . . The Giants are 2-1-0-0, having opened with three games in four nights. . . . The Thunderbirds opened the season with three games in three nights and went 1-2-0-0. . . . Vancouver remains without F Evander Kane (Atlanta) and F James Wright (Tampa Bay).

The Regina Pats got a lot of good news Sunday. First came word that D Matt Delahey (New Jersey) would be back in time to play Wednesday against the visiting Saskatoon Blades. . . . And then the Pats found out that D Colten Teubert (Los Angeles) would be coming back, too. . . . They still are missing F Jordan Eberle (Edmonton Oilers).

KELOWNA ROCKETS: Tyler Myers (Buffalo).
LETHBRIDGE: Carter Ashton (Tampa Bay), Kyle Beach (Chicago), Luca Sbisa (Anaheim), Brennan Yadlowski (Philadelphia).
PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS: Ryan Button (Boston).
REGINA PATS: Jordan Eberle (Edmonton).
SASKATOON BLADES: Jyri Niemi (New York Islanders).
SPOKANE CHIEFS: Jared Cowen (Ottawa).
VANCOUVER GIANTS: Evander Kane (Atlanta), James Wright (Tampa Bay).

Greg Meachem of the Red Deer Advocate reports that the Rebels will be without F Landon Ferraro, their best player, for a week. Ferraro was injured Saturday — he was cross-checked by F Dustin Sylvester of the Kootenay Ice — and suffered a knee injury. “Landon saw the doctor (Sunday morning) and will get an MRI (today),” Rebels head coach Jesse Wallin told Meachem. “The early prognosis is that it’s a cartilage injury and that he’ll be out seven to 10 days.” . . . That being the case, Ferraro will miss two weekend games. The Rebels play host to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday and then visit the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday.

The legend of the Crushed Can grows and grows and grows . . .
This from Matthew Gourlie of the Moose Jaw Times-Herald following the Warriors’ 7-2 victory over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night:
“With the temperature hitting 34C outside, the Raiders found the heat in their Civic Centre dressing room too oppressive and moved into the hallway. The Raiders used two curtains to block off the area and and sat on chairs between periods.”

An interesting note from Jason Peters of the Prince George Citizen, following the Cougars’ 2-1 overtime victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday:
The game “marked the first time in Cougars history that four Prince George players were in the lineup for their hometown team. Along with Brett Connolly, P.G. products on the ice were defencemen Garrett Thiessen, Tyler Miller and Dan Gibb. Miller and Gibb were making their WHL debuts and were even paired together.”
