He had 19 goals and 33 assists in 55 games for Spisska Nova Ves (Slovakia 1.Liga) last season and had one assist in six games with the Romford Raiders (England Premier) before his release on Oct. 7.

The Kelowna Rockets are in Kennewich, Wash., to face the high-flying Tri-City Americans on Friday. The Rockets hope to have D Tyson Barrie back after he missed eight games with knee and shoulder injuries.

The Rockets have dealt D Aaron Borejko, 18, to the Red Deer Rebels for a 2010 fourth-round bantam draft pick. The Rebels needed a defenceman after losing Nick Bell (hairline fracture of an ankle) indefinitely. The Rebels also are without D Alex Petrovic (high ankle sprain) for up to three more weeks. Borejko, a sophomore, had one assist in 11 games with the Rockets. Last season, he had six points in 50 games.

The Brandon Wheat Kings will play the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, Wash., on Friday and the goaltending matchup might be interesting. It could be that Brandon will give Jacob De Serres his first start since acquiring him last week . . . from the Thunderbirds.

The AHL’s Chicago Wolves, who fired their coaching staff earlier this week, named former NHLer Don Lever as their head coach and Ron Wilson — no, not that Ron Wilson — as assistant coach. They replace Don Granato and Jason Christie. Lever, 56, is a veteran coach who won the AHL title with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007. Lever also has NHL coaching experience as an assistant with the St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens. He had been working as a pro scout for the Chicago Blackhawks. . . . Wilson, a coach since 1996, was an assistant under Lever from 2005-09 in Hamilton. He also played in 832 NHL games, including a stint with the Winnipeg Jets. . . . Lever and Wilson will work their first game Friday against the visiting Manitoba Moose. The Wolves are expected to have D Chris Chelios in their lineup that night.

The Regina Pats had two players go down during a 3-2 OT loss to the Blades in Saskatoon on Wednesday. F Matt Strueby (concussion) left in the first period after being checked from behind by F Travis Toomey, who was hit with a double minor. The Pats also lost F Bradyden Metz after blocking a shot with a foot.

Former WHL G Justin Pogge, who spent most of last season with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, is back in the NHL. Pogge began this season with the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors but has been recalled by the Anaheim Ducks. He was 1-0-0 with a 0.75 GAA and a .950 save percentage in two games with the Condors. . . . He was 1-4-1, 4.36, .844 with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs last season.
