F Cass Mappin (separated shoulder) won’t play for the Vancouver Giants on Friday when they meet the visiting Red Deer Rebels. Mappin, who was acquired from Red Deer, was injured in Sunday’s 5-1 victory over the Bruins in Chilliwack and will miss up to 10 days. . . . The Giants acquired Mappin from Red Deer for F Andrej Kudrna, 18, who has 23 points, including 11 goals, in 17 games with the Rebels. . . . Mappin has seven points in 16 games with the Giants but spent some time fighting an ugly flu bug.

The Moose Jaw Warriors, who have fought a flu bug for much of the last two weeks, had a full complement of players at practice the last two days. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Warriors and Pats play in Regina on Friday and in Moose Jaw on Saturday. . . . The Warriors also will have G Jeff Bosch (hip flexor) back and ready to go.

He shows how .545 is actually the new .500, at least it is as of this week. . . . If you go by the traditional .500, there are 15 of 22 WHL teams above that mark. . . . There are nine teams at better than .545.

The Chilliwack Bruins have dealt D Carter Berg, 17, to the Calgary Hitmen for a 2011 fourth-round bantam draft pick. Berg was the 26th overall pick in the 2007 bantam draft. He had two assists in 51 games with the Bruins last season, but was reassigned after getting into just one game this season. He has two points and 23 penalty minutes with the SJHL’s Melfort Mustangs this season.

F Sanfred King, who was released earlier this season by the Brandon Wheat Kings, has been dealt by the BCHL’s Cowichan Valley Capitals to the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers for future considerations.

The Central league’s Wichita Thunder made a coaching change Thursday night, firing Brent Bilodeau (Swift Current, Seattle, 1989-93). Jason Duda (Saskatoon, Medicine Hat, 1992-95), a veteran player with the Thunder, has moved behind the bench. Duda was in his eighth season as a player with the Thunder and had five points in as many games. . . . The Thunder is off to a 2-7-0 start.
