G Torrie Jung of the Edmonton Oil Kings made his NHL debut Saturday night with the Edmonton Oilers. No, he didn’t get into the game. But he did replace Nikolai Khabibulin, who has a wonky back, and backed up Jeff Deslauriers. There’s a bit more right here.

SATURDAY:
In Moose Jaw, the Brandon Wheat Kings went five rounds before beating the Warriors 5-4 in a shootout. . . . Brandon’s first and fifth shooters, F Scott Glennie and F Jay Fehr, scored, while Moose Jaw’s first shooter, F Quinton Howden, did the same. . . . Brandon F Matt Calvert forced OT with his 17th goal at 19:33 of the third period. . . . That goal came less than two minutes after Moose Jaw F Brandon Rowinski got his 17th on the PP to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead. . . . Attendance was 2,131. . . . The victory lifted Brandon (16-10-0-2) into third in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the idle Medicine Hat Tigers. . . . The Wheat Kings have won three in a row for the second time this season. . . . The Warriors are 15-9-1-1. The loser point lifted them to within a point of the Tigers. . . . Brandon F Toni Rajala scored twice for the second straight game. He has 12 on the season. . . . Brandon G Jacob De Serres stopped 38 shots through OT. . . . The Warriors remain without F Jason Bast, who has undergone surgery to repair a broken facial bone. . . . Among Brandon’s scratches was F Paul Van de Velde (ill).

In Cranbrook, F Cody Eakin and F Justin Dowling each had two goals and an assist as the Broncos beat the Kootenay Ice, 6-2. . . . Eakin has a WHL-leading 24 goals, while Dowling has 15. . . . Attendance was 2,621. . . . The Broncos were 2-for-10 on the PP; the Ice was 1-for-6. . . . Swift Current, which has beaten the Ice in six straight games, held a 35-19 edge in shots. . . . The teams engaged in one of those multiple-fight situations at 7:15 of the second period. Ch-ch-ching! Both teams can expect to hear from Richard Doerksen, the WHL’s hanging judge. . . . Swift Current D Reece Scarlett suffered a broken nose in the melee and had to be taken to hospital where his nose apparently was rebroken and then set.

That was his second goal of the game and 11th of the season. . . . Red Deer got a big goal from F Landon Ferraro, who got his third of the season at 19:37 of the second. . . . F Lane Scheibl, acquired earlier in the day from the Vancouver Giants, was in Red Deer’s lineup. He was pointless and minus-1. . . . The Chiefs are 13-8-1-0. . . . Attendance was 4,904.

Portland G Mac Carruth, a recent addition from the NAHL’s Wenatchee Wild, stopped 18 shots in his first WHL start. . . . F Connor Redmond, acquired earlier in the day from the Red Deer Rebels, was in Vancouver’s lineup. He was pointless and minus-1, as was F Lane Scheibl who went the other way in the deal. . . . Attendance was 8,924.

In Kent, Wash., F Shane Harper scored two goals, set up another and was plus-4 as the Everett Silvertips got past the Seattle Thunderbirds, 4-1. . . . In Kennewick, Wash., the Regina Pats scored three times in the first period and added four more in the second en route to a 7-1 thrashing of the Tri-City Americans. . . . It was the first home loss of the season for the Americans, who had been 9-0 in the Toyota Center. . . . The last time the Americans were beaten that badly at home was Feb. 1, 2003, when they dropped a 6-0 decision to the Kamloops Blazers. . . . Regina is 2-0 on its six-game road swing, having opened Friday with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook. . . . In Chilliwack, G Justin Leclerc won another shootout as the Kamloops Blazers got past the Bruins, 4-3. . . . The Blazers (11-13-2-1) got shootout goals from their first and last shooters, F C.J. Stretch and F Shayne Wiebe, while F Roman Horak, the Bruins’ second scorer, was the only skater to solve Leclerc. . . . Leclerc has been beaten twice in 13 shootout attempts this season. . . . The Bruins are 11-12-1-4. The loser point allowed them to move into a tie for fifth in the Western Conference with the Spokane Chiefs. Spokane, however, has played six fewer games. . . . Kamloops F Tyler Shattock had a goal and an assist. This is worth noting because he got tossed from a 3-1 loss to the host Seattle Thunderbirds of Kent with a boarding major for a first-period hit on D Steve Chaffin. The Blazers were most upset with the penalty, feeling that Shattock’s check was a clean play on which an opposing player unfortunately was injured. The fact that Shattock was in the lineup would indicate the WHL office agreed. . . . Chilliwack G Mark Friesen stopped 22 shots. . . . Kamloops D Tyler Hansen gave the Blazers a 3-2 lead with his first WHL goal at 7:40 of the third period. . . . Horak tied the score at 15:29 of the third. . . . Attendance was 2,968.
