It has finally happened. The Prince Albert Raiders have traded away enigmatic F Cole Penner, 18. Penner, the fourth overall selection in the 2006 bantam draft, has been dealt to the Chilliwack Bruins for a 12th round selection in the 2010 bantam draft. . . . All told, Penner played only 17 games with the Raiders, recording one goal, one assist and 56 penalty minutes.

D Dillon Scholten of the Vancouver Giants is back practising after recovering from wrist surgery that took place late in September. Scholten, 19, had offseason surgery and needed another procedure prior to the start of the season. He could play Wednesday afternoon against the Bruins in Chilliwack. . . . Scholten is the older brother of Vancouver F Brandon Scholten, 17. . . . Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province reports that F Garry Nunn, who has been out with a broken leg and badly sprained ankle, may be back skating next week. Nunn is a 20-year-old and his return will leave the Giants with four such players, one over the limit. Once he returns, the Giants will have two weeks to get down to three. Vancouver’s other 20-year-olds are F Milan Kytnar, D Ryan Funk and D Nolan Toigo.

Dean Clark spent two seasons (2001-03) coaching the Brandon Wheat Kings. He is back in Brandon on Wednesday afternoon as head coach of the Prince George Cougars. . . . The Wheat Kings went 86-40-5 with Clark as head coach and got to the Eastern Conference final both seasons, losing to the Red Deer Rebels, first in seven games then in five. . . . Brandon might have freshman F Jordan DePape back. He has been out for a month with a broken foot but returned to practice this week.

In Kamloops, F Andrej Kudrna scored three times to help the Red Deer Rebels to a 7-4 victory over the Blazers. . . . F Josh Cowen, who played for the Kamloops-based major midget Thompson Blazers, added two goals for the Rebels, while D Alex Petrovic drew four assists in the second multi-point game of his WHL career. . . . Attendance was 4,173. . . . There were quite a few NHL scouts in the building and you can bet they liked what they saw of Petrovic, who was the best player on the ice.

In Lethbridge, D Landon Oslanski’s first goal of the season was the winner as the Hurricanes edged the Calgary Hitmen, 3-2. . . . Oslanski gave Lethbridge a 3-1 lead early in the second period. The Hitmen got one back when F Del Cowan scored on the PP at 11:02 of the second but they weren’t able to get the equalizer. . . . Lethbridge (8-11-2-0) has won three in a row. . . . The Hitmen, who are at home to the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday afternoon, are 16-6-0-0. . . . Calgary F Brandon Kozun, who leads the WHL scoring race, had one assist. . . . Lethbridge G Brandon Anderson stopped 29 shots. . . . Calgary G Martin Jones turned aside 25. He is 9-3 on the season. . . . Calgary was 2-for-5 on the PP; Lethbridge was 0-for-7. . . . Attendance was 3,447. . . . The victory lifted the Hurricanes out of the Eastern Conference basement. They are one point ahead of the Kootenay Ice and one behind the Edmonton Oil Kings.

In Regina, the Pats won their fourth straight game, doubling the Prince George Cougars, 4-2. . . . F Jordan Weal’s 10th goal of the season at 12:22 of the second period on the PP gave Regina 3-1 lead and stood up as the winner. . . . Attendance was 4,006. . . .
