Tri-City to add goaltender?

It would seem that the Tri-City Americans are about to add a goaltender to their roster. There is news right here.

Whats wrong with the two they have? They seem to be doing the job? Although they had 5 or 6 tenders at main camp....is this the import that never showed up?
Ams staff kind of said they were unhappy with the two they had. Even Chet Pickards dad showed up to camp but no Chet?

This is the import that never showed.

The AMS had a big question mark in net going into the season. While both Owsley and Martyniuk played well at times in spot duty last year, neither had showed they could handle the #1 job after Chet left.

Well Owsley was the best goalie out of camp, more by default than by stellar play, but as the season wore on he's gotten better and better. And now he's certainly earned the starting job and the team and fans clearly have confidence in him.

We were all disappointed Pechursky never showed but by the end of October most fans had forgotten about him, because the starting job was in clearly in good hands.

I guess its better that he shows late than not at all. Marty clearly isn't in the future plans for this team, so overall our goaltending tandem will be improved, but I sure hope this doesn't mess with the chemistry of the team or with Owsley's confidence.

Wheatie fans have said goaltending is a weakness, maybe we could trade him for Rajala. Brandon certainly has enough firepower and I doubt the russian would mind being traded to a for sure Memorial Cup team.

Brandon already has two goaltenders that are better than Owsley. I have never seen the Russian play so I can't judge him. But Owsley's spotty play could cost the Ams if they hit an offensive bump or a hot goaltender.... The Ams are likely looking at a top seed with a ton of firepower. But a team with game-stealing goaltenders could give them problems, and they might be lined up with one in the first round with a Mucha in Kamloops or Pickard in Seattle whom has already stolen games from the Ams this year. Just a thought I would rather have a backup plan in case Owsley stumbles.

I wouldnt say Owsley was better by default. He was clearly the better tender at camp. Saying that I cant say I was all that impressed with most NOT all of the atendees at camp or the team they have iced. The play looked like Junior A. I was a bit disappointed and must admit I question whether they can compete with a team like Calgary.

Ya sure they have first in their division, but I don't really think they can compete with the best. Miller and his scouting staff or should I say the head Scout from Winnipeg, the only scout I could see, have a lot of work to do.

Owsley is better statistically than either Brandon goaltender, and the Brandon goaltenders have a team with far more depth in front of them.

Brandon doesn't need any more of an upgrade at forward, and they could probably get by with what they have in goal. What they really do need is to get rid of a few of the pylons they have patrolling their blueline, and replace them with some that are more mobile/defensively responsible.

Anonymous #2 here:

I didn't mean to imply the Owsley didn't play well in the preseason or that he didn't earn the starter job. He was the best goalie in camp but not by a leaps and bounds, he's improved so much from that point to now its incredible. He's a legit # 1 goalie now and I'd rather have him than almost anyone in the league (Pickard?).

My thoughts about Brandon maybe still wanting to upgrade their tender position was just what I had heard from some of their fans. I've only seen Brandon once and their goalie didn't strike me as anything special then but I know they are playing much better now. As far Brandon's goalies being better than Owlsey, I don't know much about the other one, but you keep Deserres. The Am's used to light him like a Christmas tree, I'd much rather have Owsley, all 5'8" of him.

Why do I think that the previous 6 comments were all by the same poster?

No, the dad of Chet Pickard was at the main camp evryday while his other son was in Seattle and Chet in the NHL?AHL camp. NO none could figure out why he was there, perhaps securing a posotion if things didn't work out for either boy?

Camp looked like Junior A , your choice BCHL and/or AJHL...

No not the same poster..
