Sunday . . .

Of all the hockey players I have encountered while covering the WHL, Stu Grimson is one of the favourites. Not only did he have one of hockey’s best nicknames, The Grim Reaper, but he was terrific to talk to and always was quick to smile. So . . . what’s The Grim Reaper up to these days? In Calgary, the Kootenay Ice ran their winning streak to a franchise-record 12 games with a 3-1 victory over the Hitmen. . . . The Ice (28-15-1-2) also moved to within a point of the Hitmen (29-15-1-1), who are fourth in the Eastern Conference. . . . The Hitmen won the first four games in the season series; the Ice has won the last three. . . . The Ice got first-period goals from F Max Reinhart and F Jesse Ismond. F Brock Montgomery upped the lead to 3-0 at 6:48 of the third. . . . F Brandon Kozun had Calgary’s goal, shorthanded, at 9:29 of the third. . . . The Hitmen were 0-for-7 on the PP, including a pair of 5-on-3s. The Ice was 0-for-4. . . . G Todd Mathews stopped 30 shots for the Ice, while Calgary’s Martin Jones turned aside 27. . . . Kootenay F Dystin Sylvester failed to score on a late third-period penalty shot. . . . Attendance was 7,600. . . . The Hitmen are without F Joel Broda (concussion).

In Chilliwack, F Kevin Sundher scored two goals and set up another as the Bruins rocked the Red Deer Rebels, 5-1. . . . The Bruins (21-22-1-5) halted a four-game losing skid. . . . The Rebels (24-19-0-4) went 2-2 on their B.C. Division swing. . . . Sundher now has 20 goals. . . . The Rebels got the game’s first goal when F Andrej Kudrna scored on the PP at 6:23 of the first period. . . . Sundher got his goals at 5:00 and 11:39 of the second to give the Bruins a lead they won’t surrender. . . . D Brandon Manning had two assists and was plus-4 for Chilliwack. . . . Bruins G Lucas Gore stopped 27 shots, while Red Deer’s Kraymer Barnstable turned aside 38. . . . Attendance was 3,647.

In Everett, F Shane Harper opened and closed the scoring as his Silvertips got past the Seattle Thunderbirds of Kent, 4-3. . . . Harper’s second goal, his 28th of the season, came at 2:25 of overtime. . . . Harper has 84 career goals with Everett, one shy of the franchise record held by Zach Hamill. . . . Harper is the franchise leader in games played (310). . . . The Silvertips (28-16-2-1) have won nine in a row and haven’t lost in 2010. . . . The Thunderbirds (14-25-4-4) have lost four straight, each one by a goal. All four losses came in the last five days, too. . . . Everett led 3-1 in the second period when F Brenden Silvester, with his third score of the season, got Seattle to within one. . . .. Seattle F Luke Lockhart forced OT with his third goal at 6:32 of the third, on the PP. . . . Everett was 1-for-3 on the PP; Seattle was 1-for-2. . . . Attendance was 5,826. . . . In Moose Jaw, the Warriors won for the eighth time in 10 games, beating the Edmonton Oil Kings, 5-3. . . . The start of the game was delayed by 30 minutes when a pane of glass was broken during the warmup. . . . The Warriors got two goals each from D Dylan McIlrath, who has four, and F Spencer Edwards, who has 14. . . . F Quinton Howden got his 20th for the Warriors (25-15-2-3). . . . The Oil Kings (10-26-4-7) have lost 11 in a row. . . . Attendance was 2,110.
