SUNDAY’S PLAYOFF GAMES:
In Saskatoon, G Steven Stanford put up his second straight shutout as the Blades beat the Red Deer Rebels, 4-0. . . . Saskatoon won the opener 3-0 on Saturday. . . . Stanford, who has two shutouts in 120 regular-season games, stopped 33 shots, nine more than he faced on Saturday. . . . F Curtis Hamilton (1:53), D Jyri Niemi (2:55) and F Walker Wintoneak (4:36) scored before the game was five minutes old. . . . Red Deer G Darcy Kuemper was hooked after Wintoneak’s goal, having stopped one of four shots. . . . Kraymer Barnstable came on to turn aside 17 of 18 shots. . . . Attendance was 3,555 — down 888 from Game 1. . . . Red Deer was 0-for-8 on the PP; Saskatoon was 0-for-3. . . . The Blades added F Jeremy Boyer to their lineup, replacing F Brent Benson (shoulder), who was injured Saturday. . . . The story of this game, however, occurred in the last minute of the third period when Red Deer F Josh Cowen received a charging major and game misconduct after he ran into Stanford. . . . Lorne Molleken, the Blades’ GM/head coach, put four heavyweights out for the next faceoff and, yes, the fists flew. Molleken was among those to receive game misconducts. . . . “It was a chickenshit move; that’s all it was,” Molleken said of Cowen’s move. . . . Cory Wolfe of the Saskatoon StarPhoenix has the story right here, and it’s a good one. . . . Gotta think there may be some cha-ching!, and a suspension or two before the series resumes Wednesday in Red Deer.

Portland’s Mac Carruth stopped 36. . . . Attendance in the Rose Garden was 5,143. . . . The series will resume in Spokane on Wednesday.
