Trent Cull, a four-year assistant coach with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, is the new head coach of the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves. Cull, who played in the OHL with Owen Sound, Windsor and Kingston (1989-94), replaces Mike Foligno, who stepped down as GM/head coach following this season. The Crunch is changing NHL affiliations, going from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Anaheim Ducks, so none of its coaching staff was re-signed. . . . Before moving to the Crunch, Cull served as an assistant coach under Dave Barr with the Guelph Storm.

The Swift Current Broncos have announced that former GM/head coach Todd McLellan and former player Jason Krywulak will be the 2010 inductees into their Hall of Fame. McLellan will go into to the builders’ side, with Krywulak on the players’ side. McLellan, now the head coach of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, is from Melville, Sask. He was the Broncos’ head coach and assistant GM (1994-96) and GM/head coach (1996-2000). He was the WHL executive of the year in 1997 and the coach of the year in 2000. . . . Krywulak, who was acquired from the Medicine Hat Tigers, played two seasons (1991-93) with the Broncos, rolling up 264 points in 144 games. He holds the team record for goals (81) and points (162) in a season. He holds the WHL record for PP goals in a season (47). In 1992-93, he led the WHL in scoring, was named MVP and was a second-team CHL all-star. . . . The Hall of Fame festivities, including the Wellington West golf tournament, will will be held July 22-23.

Less than a week after their season ended, the Tri-City Americans have named veteran F Kruise Reddick as their team captain for next season. Reddick, who will be in his 20-year-old season, will be the 22nd captain in the team’s history. The Americans lost out to the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL’s championship final, the series ending Friday in Calgary. Reddick has played four seasons with Tri-City. He has 197 points in 252 games. . . . Reddick takes over as captain from D Jarrett Toll, who played out his eligibility this season.

G Kurtis Mucha, who completed his eligibility with the Kamloops Blazers this season, has rejoined the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads. With the AHL’s Texas Stars having recalled G Richard Bachman, the Steelheads were in need of a goaltender. So they brought back Mucha, who had spent some time with them following the Blazers’ first-round loss to the Vancouver Giants. Mucha was on the bench Tuesday night, backing up Rejean Beauchemin (Prince Albert, 2002-05) for Game 6 of the National Conference final against the Stockton Thunder. . . . Beauchemin went the distance, stopping 24 shots, as the host Steelheads dumped the Thunder 7-5 to win the series, 4-2. . . . The Steelheads will meet the Cincinnati Cyclones or Reading Royals in the Kelly Cup final. The Cyclones, who lost the first three games of that series, beat the visiting Royals 6-3 on Tuesday night to force Game 7 on Wednesday night. That game also will be played in Cincinnati.

The trip to Brandon for the Memorial Cup will cost the Windsor Spitfires about $100,000. Dave Waddell of the Windsor Star has that story right here.
---
The OHL’s Peterborough Petes, already with a new GM, will have a new coaching staff. General manager Dave Reid, who was hired last week, has decided not to renew the contracts of head coach Ken McRae and assistant coach Ryan Barnes.

F Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen has yet to practice since leaving the last game of the WHL championship series with an injury. Kozun went feet first into the boards early in the second period of Calgary’s 4-1 series-ending victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans on Friday night. He didn’t return to the game. The Hitmen returned to the ice on Monday, but Kozun didn’t skate then or Tuesday. He says he should be back on his blades Thursday in Brandon. Kozun was the leading scorer in the WHL playoffs.
