Troy Mick is on the move after a banner season as general manager and head coach of the junior B Revelstoke, B.C., Grizzlies. Mick has signed a five-year contract as director of hockey operations and player development at Pursuit of Excellence, a hockey academy based in Kelowna. This is a new position created at PoE; it’s also believed that Mick will coach the academy’s top midget team. Mick, 41, also is a co-owner of the Grizzlies, a position he will maintain. Under Mick, the Grizzlies won everthing there was to win this season — the Kootenay International junior league title, the Cyclone Taylor Cup as B.C. champions, and the Keystone Cup as Western Canadian champions. Mick, who played minor hockey in Vernon, B.C., played in the WHL and also has coach in the WHL and BCHL. . . . Mick’s son Logan, 13, will play for PoE’s bantam team.

Jarrod Brodsky is Bob’s son and has been working in the Blades’ office since 2001. He has been the AGM since 2005. . . . Doug Molleken, Lorne’s younger brother, has been part of the Blades’ scouting staff for seven seasons. He is into his fifth season as head scout. . . . He coached the Chicago Blackhawks to the 1961 Stanley Cup but he is largely forgotten in the Windy City. Rudy Pilous also spent three seasons (1971-74) as head coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings. David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune has more right here.

At least three WHL players who were selected in the 2008 NHL draft have failed to sign pro deals and now are free agents or can go back into the draft. . . . F Matt Tassone, who has been plagued by injuries the last couple of seasons, wasn’t signed by the Dallas Stars, who took him in the sixth round. He played out his eligibility with the Swift Current Broncos this season. . . . F Geordie Wudrick, a third-round pick, wasn’t able to get a deal done with the Los Angeles Kings and could return to the Kelowna Rockets as a 20-year-old.
