Friday . . .

F Brendan Gallagher of the Vancouver Canucks is in camp with the Montreal Canadiens’ prospects which can mean only one thing — yes, they’re talking about his size. Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette has a story right here.

F Prab Rai, who had a terrific final WHL season with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2009-10, is in the Vancouver Canucks’ development camp. But former NHLer Dave Gagner, the Canucks’ director of player development, isn’t exactly singing Rai’s praises. Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun has that story right here.

The Atlanta Thrashers’ development camp runs through Tuesday at the NHL team’s practice facility, the Duluth IceForum. . . . WHLers included on the roster are F Jimmy Bubnick (Calgary), F Levko Koper (Spokane) and D Kendall McFaull (Moose Jaw). Also on hand is former WHL D Paul Postman (Chicago, AHL). . . . Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has more on Postma right here.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ development camp is underway and, yes, Kyle Beach is in the news. Check it out right here.

WHLers joining Beach in Chicago’s camp are F Sena Acolatse (Chicago), F Bretton Cameron (Medicine Hat), F Byron Froese (Everett), D Ryan Stanton (Moose Jaw), G Mac Carruth (Portland) and G Kent Simpson (Everett). . . . Chicago’s camp runs through Monday at Johnny’s IceHouse West.

D Brett Palin (Kelowna, 2000-05) has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the NHL’s Nashville Predators. He was an unrestricted free agent. Palin, 26, has been in the Calgary Flames’ organization for five seasons, playing last season with the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat. He spent five seasons in Kelowna, winning two WHL titles and a Memorial Cup. . . . Palin’s signing is a depth move for the Predators, after their AHL farm club, the Milwaukee Admirals, lost D Nolan Yonkman (Kelowna, Brandon, 1996-2001) to the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed F Ben Ondrus (Swift Current, 1998-2003) to a one-year deal. He had been in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ organization. He had 14 points with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies last season. In 52 career NHL games, Ondrus has two assists and 77 penalty minutes.

F Tyler Pitlick is leaving an NCAA Divison 1 school to play for the Medicine Hat Tigers. He was the first pick of the second round in the 2010 NHL draft, selected by the Edmonton Oilers. Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal has more right here.
