THE MacBETH REPORT:
F Matt Higgins (Moose Jaw, 1993-97) signed a one-year contract extension with Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia, plays in Austria Erste Bank Liga). He had three goals and six assists in 16 games in an injury-filled last season. . . .
F Lee Goren (Saskatoon, 1995-96) signed a one-year contract with the Straubing Tigers (Germany DEL). He had thee goals and eight assists in 12 games for Tappara Tampere (Finland SM-Liiga), three goals and two assists in 16 games for Färjestad Karlstad (Sweden Elitserien), and no goals and four assists in nine games for Bern (Switzerland NL A) last season. . . . Goren is another one who played in the WHL then moved on to the NCAA. Two games with Saskatoon in 1995-96, then off to North Dakota. He sat out 1996-97, then played three years.

The Ottawa Citizen reported Sunday that Bob Boughner, the president and head coach of the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires is to named an assistant coach with the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. . . . The Columbus Dispatch also reported the story on its website. . . . The Spitfires have won the last two Memorial Cups. . . . Bob Jones, the Spitfires’ head coach, is expected to be named head coach, with assistant coach D.J. Smith being promoted to associate coach. . . . Hockey Canada will need to find a new assistant coach for its U-20 team. Boughner had been named one of the team’s two assistants.

The Buffalo Sabres’ summer development camp opens Monday at Dwyer Arena, which is on the campus of Niagara University in Lewiston, N.Y. Included on the 42-player camp roster are F Riley Boychuk (Portland), F Kevin Sundher (Chilliwack), F Brody Sutter (Lethbridge), D Corey Fienhage (Kamloops), D Matt Mackenzie (Calgary), D Brayden McNabb (Kootenay) and D Mark Pysyk (Edmonton). . . . Pysyk (23rd), Sundher (75th), MacKenzie (83rd) and Boychuk (208th) were selected in the 2010 NHL draft. . . . Fienhage and McNabb were taken in the 2009 draft. . . . Sutter is a free agent. . . . Also there will be F Tyler Ennis, the Medicine Hat product who split last season beween the Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans. He was the 26th overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft.
