F Josh Bonar (Kamloops, Vancouver, Regina, 2000-03) signed a one-year contract with Miskolci Jegesmedve JSE (Hungary). He had 21 goals and 19 assists in 49 games with Louisiana IceGators (SPHL) last season. . . .
D Justin Kurtz (Brandon, 1993-97) signed a one-year contract with the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven (Germany 2.Bundesliga). He had nine goals and 10 assists in 50 games with Örebro (Sweden Allsvenskan) last season. . . .
F Tim Konsorada (Brandon, 1999-2005) signed a one-year contract with Merano (Italy Serie A2). He had 18 goals and 18 assists in 48 games for Lillehammer (Norway Get Ligaen) last season. . . .
F Matt Pettinger (Calgary, 1999-2000) signed a one-year contract with Kölner Haie (Germany DEL). He had 14 goals and 16 assists in 54 games for Manitoba Moose (AHL) and one goal and two assists in nine games with Vancouver Canucks (NHL) last season. . . .
F Nathan Smith (Swift Current, 1998-2002) signed a one-year contract with the Augsburger Panther (Germany DEL). He had 14 goals and 23 assists in 67 games for the Houston Aeros (AHL) and was pointless in nine games with the Minnesota Wild (NHL) last season. . . .
D Rory Rawlyk (Vancouver, Prince Albert, Red Deer, 2001-03) signed a one-year contract with Lausitzer Füchse Weisswasser (Germany 2.Bundesliga). He had 11 goals and 23 assists in 40 games for Herne (Germany Oberliga) last season.

Mitch Carefoot, a second-round pick in the 2000 bantam draft, has signed on as an assistant coach with the Transcona Railers of the Manitoba Major junior league. The Prince Albert Raiders selected Carefoot, 25, who is from Dauphin, Man. The Brandon Wheat Kings later acquired his rights and heavily recruited him. They couldn’t land him, however, as he went the NCAA route, playing four seasons at Cornell.

A couple of notes from Bob Duff of the Windsor Star: “Rob Riley, hired earlier this week by the Columbus Blue Jackets to coach their Springfield AHL farm club, is the son of Jack Riley, who guided Team USA to the gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, Calif. . . . Richard (Dick) Coss, a scout with the Detroit Red Wings in the 1960s who listed former Spitfires coach Ron Harris among his discoveries, died July 30. He was 94. Coss also scouted for the Pittsburgh Penguins.” . . . Former WHL coach Rob Daum was the head coach in Springfield last season, when the team was affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers. He was a finalist for the position this time around but was left on the outside looking in. . . . Ron Harris coached in the WHL with Spokane and Kamloops.

The Moose Jaw Warriors have hired Alan Millar as their director of hockey operations. Millar, who takes over from Jeff Truitt, signed a five-year contract. . . . Truitt was in Moose Jaw for one season before signing on as an assistant coach with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage. . . . Miller has extensive OHL experience, having been GM with the Sarnia Sting (2004-09) and Guelph Storm (1993-2003). He also spent a season as the St. Michael’s Majors’ director of player personnel.
