D Paul Albers (Calgary, Regina, Vancouver, 2001-06) signed a tryout contract with Krefeld Pinguine (Germany DEL). He had three goals and 10 assists in 49 games with the Nuremburg Ice Tigers (Germany DEL) last season. . . .
D Chris Schmidt (Seattle, 1992-96) signed a one-year contract with the Kassel Huskies (Germany DEL). He had one goal and five assists in 51 games for Alder Mannheim (Germany DEL) last season. . . .
F Petr Sachl (Tri-City, 1996-97) signed a one-year contract with Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia, plays in Austria Erste Bank Liga). He had six goals and 11 assists in 35 games for Kosice (Slovakia Extraliga) and two goals and four assists during a four-game loan to Jindrichuv Hradec (Czech Republic 2.Liga) last season. . . .
F Colin Forbes (Portland, 1994-96) signed a one-year contract with Ingolstadt (Germany DEL). He had 12 goals and 25 assists in 54 games with Alder Mannheim (Germany DEL) last season. . . .
F Brett Lysak (Regina, 1996-2001) signed a one-year contract with Jesenice (Slovenia, plays in Austria Erste Bank Liga). He had a league-leading 23 goals and 19 assists in 36 games with Esbjerg (Denmark AL-Bank Liga) last season.

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News has news on a third bidder for the Dallas Stars. That third bidder, the identity of which has been one of hockey grand mysteries, appears to be News Corp./Fox. . . . The other two bidders have been identified as Calgary businessman Bill Gallacher, who owns the Portland Winterhawks, and Vancouver businessman Tom Gaglardi, the majority owner of the Kamloops Blazers. . . . The AJHL’s Olds Grizzlys have signed Kevin Willison as their director of hockey operations and head coach. He inked a three-year contract that begins immediately. Willison, from Calgary, has spent the last five seasons coaching at The Edge School. . . . He replaces Doug Hedley, who resigned in late July after signing a three-year contract in June.

F Shaun Van Allen (Saskatoon, 1985-87) has signed on as an assistant coach with the Carleton Ravens, a Canadian university team. Van Allen played professionally for 17 seasons, six of those with the Ottawa Senators. Carleton is located in Ottawa.
