F Mike Bayrack (Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Prince George, 1995-99) signed a one-year contract withthe Belfast Giants (UK Elite). He had eight goals and 10 assists in 34 games with the Stockton Thunder, Gwinnett Gladiators and Florida Everblades (all ECHL) last season. . . .
F Mike Wirll (Brandon, Prince Albert, Prince George, Lethbridge, 1997-2003) was released from his try-out contract with Västerås (Sweden Allsvenskan). He had 19 goals and 12 assists in 18 games for Gislaved (Sweden Division 1) last season. . . .
F Jan Fadrny (Brandon, Kelowna, 1998-2001) signed a try-out contract with Dresdner Eislöwen (Germany 2.Bundesliga). He had 28 goals and 35 assists in 25 games for Halle (Germany Regionalliga Ost) last season. . . .
F Denis Pederson (Prince Albert, 1991-95) has come out of a short-lived retirement and signed a one-year contract with Eisbären Berlin (Germany DEL). He had announced his retirement in March but started to have a change of heart about six weeks ago. Pederson had 19 goals and 33 assists in 54 games for Eisbären last season. . . .
D Matt Suderman (Saskatoon, Everett, 1999-2004) signed a one-year contract with the Dundee Stars (UK Elite). He had one goal and two assists in 21 games for Morzine-Avoriaz (France Ligue Magnus) last season. . . .
F Rhett Gordon (Regina, 1992-96) signed a one-year contract with Bolzano (Italy Serie A). He had 12 goals and 18 assists in 55 games for Augsburger Panther (Germany DEL) last season. . . .
F Frantisek Mrazek (Red Deer, 1997-99) signed a try-out contract with the Landshut Cannibals (Germany DEL). He had three goals and four assists in 15 games with Slovan usti nad Labem (Czech Republic 1.Liga), one assist in two games with Litomerice (Czech Republic 2.Liga), and no points in two games with Kladno (Czech Republic Extraliga) last season. . . .
F Jiri Ryzuk (Kootenay, 2007-08) signed a try-out contract with the Hannover Indians (Germany 2.Bundesliga) after his release from a try-out contract with the Landshut Cannibals (Germany DEL). He had no points in 33 games for Karlovy Vary U20 (Czech Republic U20 Extraliga) last season.

Sherry Bassin, the long-time major junior hockey exec, is recovering from surgery to replace his right shoulder. He had the procedure a couple of weeks ago in Toronto and the 71-year-old Bassin, who is the managing partner and GM of the OHL’s Erie Otters, now is recuperating at home in Oshawa. . . . Bassin also has had both hips replaced. . . . Bassin told Victor Fernandes of the Erie Times-News that he plans on being in Erie when the Otters open camp on Aug. 30. “I told the players I want to go a couple of rounds,” Bassin told Fernandes. “We’ll find out how tough they are. I’m going to fake with my right (hand) and go with my left.”
