Saturday . . .

NHL general managers are awfully reluctant to declare a blanket ban on headshots. In fact, it would appear that won’t happen before another season gets here. Jeff Z. Klein and Stu Hackel of Slap Shot, The New York Times’ hockey blog, have the latest right here.

D Thomas Hickey was the fourth overall selection in the NHL’s 2007 draft, taken by the Los Angeles Kings. He played four seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds, but has yet to appear in an NHL game. That, of course, is thanks mainly to injuries, a situation he hopes has been resolved. Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald has Hickey’s story right here.

Doug Soetaert, the general manager of the Everett Silvertips, needs a head coach to replace Craig Hartsburg, who left after two seasons to join the staff of the NHL’s Calgary Flames. Soetaert sat down the other day with Jon Rosen, Everett’s director of public broadcasting and public relations, and talked about the search for a coach and a whole lot more. The transcript of their chat is right here.
