Another email brings word of two mores teams that use logos similar to that of the NHL’s Washington Capitals.
This time we bring you the logos of the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League and the Avalon Capitals of the junior B St. John’s Junior Hockey League.

The Kelowna Rockets have added D Joe Gatenby, a second-round selection in the 2012 bantam draft, to their roster. Gatenby, from Kelowna, played for the major midget Okanagan Rockets. . . . The Rockets earlier added D Nick Merkley, their first-round pick in 2012, and F Justin Kirkland, a fifth-round selection in 2011, to their roster. . . . Merkley played for the midget AAA Calgary Buffaloes, while Kirkland played for the midget AAA Notre Dame Argos, who are based in Wilcox, Sask.

In Edmonton, G Mackenzie Skapski stopped 47 shots and F Luke Philp scored in OT as the Kootenay Ice got past the Oil Kings, 2-1. . . . The Oil Kings had won the opener 9-0 on Friday. . . . Philp’s shot from a bad angle somehow got through Edmonton G Laurent Brossoit at 14:56 of OT. . . . F Brock Montgomery gave the Ice a 1-0 lead at 10:34 of the third period. . . . Edmonton F Michael St. Croix tied it at 12:01. . . . Philp finished with a goal and an assist. . . . Brossoit stopped 24 shots.
