In Calgary, F Matt Staples scored on a dump-in from centre at 17:35 of OT to give the Medicine Hat Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Hitmen. . . . The series is tied 1-1. . . . They’ll play Game 3 tonight in Calgary, then return to Medicine Hat for Game 4 on Wednesday. . . . On Sunday afternoon, the WHL released the complete schedule for this series. Until then, only the dates for the first four games had been known. If necessary, Game 5 will be played in Calgary on Friday, with Game 6 in Medicine Hat on Sunday and Game 7 back in Calgary on Monday, April 20. . . . Staples, a 19-year-old from Coppell, Texas, had two goals in 63 regular-season games. This was his first goal in 28 playoff games. . . . Calgary D Travis Sanheim opened the scoring with his third goal at 14:57 of the second period. . . . F Steve Owre pulled the Tigers even with his fourth goal, on a PP, at 19:29 of the second. . . . F Dryden Hunt gave the Tigers the lead with his third goal at 3:55 of the third. . . . F Jordy Stallard scored for the Hitmen at 7:06 to tie it 2-2. . . . Hunt and Sanheim also add an assist each. . . . Tigers G Marek Langhamer stopped 39 shots, eight fewer than Calgary's Mack Shields. . . . The Tigers were 1-for-2 on the PP; the Hitmen were 0-for-4. . . . The Hitmen lost F Chase Lang with an injury to his right leg. . . . Attendance was 5,846. . . . It didn’t take long for the axe to fall in Toronto after the Maple Leafs ended their regular season on Saturday night. Come Sunday morning, the scythe went through the organization, taking out a whole lot of people. I'm not certain of what scouts were fired, but there are three amateur scouts on Toronto's staff with ties to the WHL. . . . Garth Malarchuk, who was a goaltender, played for the Calgary Centennials (1973-74). He later coached the Kelowna Rockets (1998-2000). This was his 22nd season as a Toronto scout. . . . Roy Stasiuk is in his sixth season with the Maple Leafs. He has worked in the WHL for the Prince Albert Raiders, Red Deer Rebels, Edmonton/Kootenay Ice and Lethbridge Hurricanes. . . . Darryl Stanley was a gritty defenceman with the New Westminster Bruins and Saskatoon Blades (1979-82). He scouted for Toronto for five seasons after stints with the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks. . . . Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres dumped their coaching staff overboard on Sunday, and that included head coach Ted Nolan and former WHLer Bryan Trottier (Swift Current, Lethbridge, 1972-74).

The junior B Peguis Juniors and host Selkirk Fishermen played a Keystone Junior Hockey League game on Friday night. The Fishermen scored eight second-period goals and won, 9-0. . . . Selkirk was 2-for-16 on the PP; Peguis was 0-for-3. . . . There was a 178-penalty-minute incident with 1:13 left in the third period. . . . By game’s end, Peguis had been given 195 penalty minutes; Selkirk took 89 minutes. . . . The referee was Kelsey Mahoney. On Saturday night, Mahoney enjoyed a relatively quiet night as he worked the lines as the host Brandon Wheat Kings dumped the Regina Pats, 5-2.
